How many 03 to 07's out there have had mice destroy the under-hood thermal insulater? Mice sure do like to live in the hood on cold nights especially if you use your block heater. Today I opened my hood and poop fell out all over the cowl area. Got my shop vac and sucked it up and out and also removed the insulator. Mouse popped his head out of the metal cavity of the hood and I sucked it out too. I've been lucky that no wiring has been chewed on in all the years I've owned the truck. I know that is a potentially fairly regular occurance with a very costly repair bill depending on the extent of damage.

I had a part number for my OEM insulator aka noise insulator and tried a couple years ago to get a new one. It came and when I got it home it was for a Hemi truck with the hood scoop and I took it back. It would be nice to get a new one but obsolete now.

Bummer.

Yeah mice got mine several yrs ago, now they've gotten in insulation in front firewall, need to find a source to replace both, any ideas?

I simply removed mine after the mice moved in. There is REALLY zero down side to not having it...no paint burning, no more engine noise inside the cab, NOTHING after 6 years of not having it under the hood.

ALSO, depending on where your truck is parked, one of the most effective ways to keep mice out from the engine comport, ent I to leave the hood OPEN, as that way it does not present the warm, safe and secure space that they so actively seek out for their nests.

What about the firewall insulation, does noise increase after removing it, mine is sagging pretty good

No mice in mine and if I did need to remove for some reason, I would definitely replace it as unlike then hood insulation, the firewall insulation is coupled directly to the cab interior. Just my .02

Unless a wreaking yard somewhere has one, the factory quit making them within a couple years. I have a jobber account at one of my area Chrysler dealership for parts and that's what I found out a couple years ago.

I think what Seafish posted is the way to go and something I had thought about as well. Probably not for the hood but if the firewall if it gets destroyed.

You might want to try this to keep the mice out.

I keep a pouch under the rear seat, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to zip tie one under the hood as well.

I removed the under hood insulator on mine a few years ago and haven't noticed a difference. However my hearing isn't the greatest to begin with.

I'm reluctant to remove the firewall insulation pad. I imagine it would put one heck of a load on your A/C system. The noise would probably be a lot more noticeable than just simply removing the under hood pad. As long as the mice don't get to it, it's staying put.

Funny you mentioned that product. I actually haver been using it for a long time. I keep it in my Suburban that is parked until I repower it. I've never seen any signs of mice in it. but then, it is in a closed enviornmentunlike an engine compartment. I recently stocked up on some more of it that I was going to place in my Ram cowling area where the fresh air enters as a mouse got into that area last year but I didn't like the order of it blasting in when had outside air moving in. I do keep a pouch of in my Sprinter engine bay but it has a charcoal cab air filtration unlike my Ram. It is without question really good stuff.
