I asked this question before but I wanted to find out more if could. On my 98 12v could someone explain the way the pump works as far as the starwheel is concerned. For example what happens if I advance my starwheel all the way out(towards the motor) or all the way in(away from the motor). Just trying to get a better understanding of how the pump works. I think my adjustment is a little off because of excessive diesel smell in the exhaust and it seems like I am smoking a little bit too much THANKS IN ADVANCE

The adjustment solely depends on personal preference. The star wheel usually is adjusted to find a happy medium of smoke. With my truck it gave it a little more bottom end. As far as over ajusting... I'm not sure that this can be done (unless perhaps you go to an extreme clicking it away from the motor, reducing fuel) My wheel is at the end of it's adjustment, clicked towards the motor, and have seen no problems resulting from this.

I think I can tackle this one. The AFC is a boost solenoid. The more boost, the more it moves. The solenoid moves a arm that stickes in the fuel pump right beside the fuel plate. The more the arm moves, the more fuel it will let you have. The star wheel controls the tension on a spring in the AFC. The farher to the engine you spin it, the less tension. The less the tension on the spring, the more the arm moves. And If you move the AFC housing to the front, it also gives ya more fuel.
If I got any part of this wrong, correct me.
