Shrimp, I am no kid and this is not my first parade. I don't need to listen to your or anyone elses BS about how wonderful the oil industry is treating this country as a whole. Profit by few at the cost of many... . is that what this country is all about??? I don't think so. Lets all get ahold of the rope and start pulling in the right direction. Whadaya think

Before we can start pulling we must define what exactly we are all pulling for. Why can't we drill for oil on our own land and offshore??? There are several LARGE, PROVEN areas off the coast of Cali that the California Legislature has tied up in NO DRILLING LEGISLATION. The same for Florida. There are areas all over the country, but Florida and Cali are two of the largest. If, and this is a large if, IF American State Legislatures can close down areas, who's interest are they serving in times like these?????

Refineries can be built with state of the art pollution control mechanisms, but enviro's have kept them from construction using fear, intimidation, and outright LIES. They love to tell about how much "pollution" one barrel of oil can produce. Yet there are areas IN THIS COUNTRY, where crude leaks out of the ground NATURALLY. Multiple areas underwater all over the world leak crude.

Big Oil is NOT without blame. They too have made some bonehead moves in the past. But if reasonable guidelines and restrictions were put on them instead of guidelines so onerous that possible projects have been shown to NEVER be able to turn a profit.

Common sense and understanding how markets work (education) is the key to start the PULLING :) .

as for who I work for they don't make money they just spend it. :)

Got that right.

The "Big Oil" companies net 9 cents/gal of gasoline, but the goverment has a 18 cent/gal tax on that gallon. Who is really making an obcene profit? The goverment doesn't even create it. The congressman are only whining because they think it makes them look good in a voting year. They couldn't care less. They're mostly butt kissers.

As the one bumper sticker I had, said, "Don't steal. The government hates competition. "

What we are pulling for is less taxes, a way out of Iraq, controll the high cost. of oil and a policy addressing the immigration problem. That will do for openers. How am I doing so far????

How does that old song go dezel... ... ... ... ... ... ... Three outa Four ain't bad!!!!!

Saw on another board a poster quoted that The Feds confiscated a total of $26 BILLION DOLLARS from Exxon/Mobils $89 billion in gross revenue in the FIRST QUARTER ALONE. Put another way, the Feds MADE 3. 13 times MORE than Exxon/Mobil's $8. 4 billion. I can't find the site it came from, but if true, someone please tell me how much capital the Feds put towards their collected spoils. ZERO.

I am wondering when some states will wake up to alternatives. Take my state for example. Here in Texas we produce natural gas, propane, wind generation and others. We could make the alternatives more readily available and cheaper for the consumer resulting in less dependency on big oil. The only problem with this idea is that not only does big oil have us by the shorts but utility companies do as well. Anything to reduce our dependency on them will be hard to do largely in part by thier lion share of the market and their foot hold in the U. S Gov.
