Has anyone installed the factory Sirius antenna? I just bought the receiver and antenna kit from Dodge, and it doesn't have any install directions except to tell you that you need to drill a 3/4" hole in the roof! Doesn't say where the hole should be drilled, where the connectors are under the headliner, etc. My dealership doesn't have a clue either. Lacking any instructions, I may need to pull the headliner to see where the factory antenna wires are, if any.

How well does a dash mount antenna work? Sirius says the antenna should be mounted on top of the roof clear of all metal framework. However, my factory GPS antenna is mounted UNDER the dash, and it works just fine.

I installed the Sirius unit in the 03 you need the installation kit from mopar as there is no factory wiring. it also comes with a template for the hole in the roof... .

Thanks all! The factory antenna is very close to the size and shape of the clearance lights. I may replace the center light with it. Would avoid having to drill a hole, put I'd loose one light (no big deal really). Either that or buy a magnetic antenna and put it behind the clearance light like Peter did.

Thoughts on these two options?

Thanks again,

Rod

Amsoilman, here is the link,

I've only used them once... but service was fast and no shipping, everything came new in box as they promised.

I researched before I ordered & found several others that said they had good experiences with them also . Used a credit card just in case.

Also use their web site to check out the new models, they have lots of info. Price wise they seemed to be within a few dollars of the lowest prices I could find... some of which where from places I wouldn't give my credit card info to on a bet!

Good Luck! DanDee

I hope somebody from Dodge is reading this. Anybody know somebody at DC I can write to to voice my opinion? I love the truck otherwise... [/QUOTE]

I found out recently when I spoke to the local DC customer service rep about some problems with my truck that DC just doesn't care! He was the rudist individual I have ever spoken to. He got me so angry I wanted to sell my truck.

Funkra,

Please do not drill a hole in your cab or replace a cab light on the outside for your antenna,

If you remove the third brake light, you will soon learn that you can run the antenna wire to the inside follow the plastic trim (use a credit card or tinting squgee) between the headliner and the plastic trim. Follow it down behind the rear seat and under the carpet. Good Luck :D

Mine is the same as yours was, but I did get it to go... ... ... ... ... ... ... . I just had to get it in the right position, and it went right in. I do love the way it works!

Wayne,

You might want to check out the Garmin Streetpilot 2620 before you make a purchase decision. I got mine for under $1k (including shipping) from 4wheelbooks.com - I've had it for a little over a month and like it as well as (if not better than) the OEM Alpine DVD-based system that came in my Acura 3. 2 TL-S.

I put a RB-1 in my 2001 jeep wrangler and it works great. This year jeep did'nt come with the RB-1 as a option and I had to tie in the existion harness and the unit works great so does the sirius radio. You should have no problem installing one in your truck.

I love the RB4, I don't see the need for a tiny map at all, I mean really what good is a tiny map?

The RB4 has been right on the money so far each time I have used it.

Great system if you ask me.

My dealership said the RB1 was not an available option. I checked it, and when you order the vehicle, the RB1 doesn't come up as an option, if that makes you all feel any better.

I think the RB4 is a waste as well. Pretty useless to have a GPS without a moving map! I was able to find a dealership that let me swap it and pay the difference between my RB4 and the RB1. They took the RB4 back and I only paid the difference of about $200. However, this happened within 2 weeks of purchase, and I do a lot of business with them. If you have a friend in parts, ask him about it.
My Dodge truck has that junky radio also and I don't like that either. All of us should send Dodge and tell them that they don't like that radio. :{
