I just flew round trip to Milwaukee from SoCal on United Airlines and every flight was sold out, they did ask for volunteers on one flight. Your link was funny, thanks for it. **

Another reason I have given up flying and along with TSA! Why do I need the headache? I use to keep a go bag when I was working for my fields trips. Boy what was in that bag I could not get through screening today with it and would probably be arrested. Tools, fluid sampling bottles, tape and so forth. We would than bring back fluid samples of the fuel oil, hydraulic oil and differential oil from the machine components for analysis in the labs.

I only fly when there is absolutely no other way to get to a Daimler event and stay on schedule.

I would seriously sign up for weekly prostrate exams over having to fly anywhere....it is just a complete nuisance even when you know what you are doing and understand the rules.

Not too bad going solo but traveling with and being responsible for others be it family or co-workers turns me into a nervous wreck...things go south in a hurry when you add people that are not familiar with the new way of flying.

As far as the United incident the guy went back on the plane after being removed once from what I understand in trying to get the whole story....bad mistake....

But United should have this all done before boarding was allowed...I have stood there in line listening to the voucher offers from the airline go up as departure time draws near, reminds me of a cattle auction....I've seen the $800.00 offers a couple of times in the last year....

On the news last nite a woman related her buy outs on a few flights to the amout of $11,000. She said that they could go on there trip any time.

Im on a United airlines flight when we got on board I ASKED THEM TO KICK MY XXX PLEASE they for some reason didn't find that funny

I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHERE PEOPLES SENSE OF HUMOR HAS GONE????

If they want me off a plane after I made reservations and paid for a ticket, the last thing I want is a voucher for another round of BS from that airline. Cash on the barrel head and I'm headed for an outfit that treats me like they appreciate my business.

I guess Im just ornery. But if I've paid for the ticket (like he did), my luggage was on the airplane (like his was), and I had taken possession of my purchase (butt sitting in the seat on the airplane), I dont think I would have been as peaceful as he was. However, I may have taken a bribe over $10k. (Yes, I can be bought :-laf

I gotta wonder what law the police thought they were enforcing.

Airline took the money, and allowed him and luggage on to the airplane. As long as he was behaving, I don't see any lawful reason to remove him.

I see big lawsuits coming and deservedly so. United and the airport police.
If were me, I would press charges against the guys who, in my opinion, unlawfully assaulted me.

Go to United's (or any other airline's) website & read the contract for carriage. Them's the rules under which they agree to let you fly. Also, after the doofus broke & ran back onto the bird, he made himself a security risk & was treated accordingly. But, as someone posted above, while they may have had the right to drag him off, the whole thing could have been handled much better.

I read that contract with United, before I flew to Milwaukee. Even though he was in the wrong, no jury will not rule in favor of United Airlines. The contract needs to be updated and the laws should be changed to reflect passengers rights. If the ticket was paid for and the seat assigned and you are seated on the aircraft, regardless of how you get in your seat, the Airline should have no authority to physically remove you. Over booking is a poor practice, and is soon to be eliminated.*

Agreed.

Bumping for over booking or employee transport needs to occur before boarding. Trying to do it after only delays the flight and throws off all the schedules.

Heck, even if they are not sure if the flight will be over sold, while everyone is sitting in the waiting room, they could ask for possible volunteers in advance.

Will the lawsuits are coming! The DR. has a server concussion, two broken teeth with a broken nose and still in the hospital as of Friday, with this all occurred as the three officers removed him from his seat. They have been suspended pending further review. Per the Chicago Aviation authority these officers were not the working for United Airlines and exceeded their authority in removing him from his seat. The Chicago City Council has opened hearings on this incident and have question United Airlines offer this event. More to come!

The only question is if the jerk's injuries were directly from his actions or if security over did it. From the clip I saw it appeared when he finally let go he flew out of the seat and smashed his face in the armrest across the isle. If that is the case, tough luck, its called karma. If the security purposely bashed his face after they got him free, then they should pay for his medical expenses. In either case HE was the one to cause the escalation of the situation to physical confrontation. It disgusts me how we have become a society of children who want to do whatever we want, whenever we want to. No respect for authority, not a thought about how our actions will affect those around us, not a care about what we've agreed to contractually, we just want to do what we want.

As is the case with any questioning of authority, simply comply and if you feel you've been wronged document everything and fight it through the system. What did this ahole think was going to happen? Did he think his squealing and whining would make security give up and go away? No common sense now a days. Sure a jury might give him money (it is part of what is wrong with our society today, that people deserve gross amounts of money because of their own stupidity), but the guy was in the wrong.

Is the bumping policy a bad policy, you bet. That doesn't make the guy any less in the wrong. And now comes all the political second guessers to grandstand for public (Chicago city council, etc). Disgusting.
