I've made the switch!!!!

Newbi question of the month.

I have found a little black box with an open power lead attached to the factory harness. The box has minimal info but I'm looking for more. On the box is a plain label with the following:

Type: Fuel Boost

Model: Stage II

P/N: 2004

Item: 5043075

S/N: 0002306

I know; pretty self explanitory but - who makes it and is it needed now that I'm running Edge Juice. Originally working on replacing lift pump due to low pressure then saw this box zip tied to the oil level tube. 99 cummins to assist. .

Sounds to me like a Dr. Performance fueling box. When you say open power lead connected to the factory harness do you mean it's plugged "in-line" with somthing from the motor?

I can't remember if the edge for a 1999 adds fuel pressure as part of it's performance program, but if it does, and this box is also adding pressure, you may not be getting the full benefit of the edge juice.

A picture would probably help with the identification quite a bit.

Oh, and if you'd like to part with it, I'd probably be interested.

Thanks,

Andy

The box is getting power from the battery but has an extra power lead off the box; the rest of the wire bundle goes to the factory harness. I will get a pic within the next two days. Thanks for the reply.

I'll post a pick Saturday night. Search for Dr. Performance fueling box with no results to match.

Thanks AndyMan

Devan; do you mean - 99 edge adds no pressure so this wont effect or?

Thanks

I think he's saying that the Edge for a 99 model truck does not add pressure. "stacking" boxes is pretty common around here. You'll use one box for pressure, and another for timing, etc. You might have found a good stack, or you may have suffering performance. I'd take the unknown box out of the loop (just unplug it, and restore the factory connectors) and see what difference you notice.

When I "identified" the box, I didn't get any hits on the Item or Part numbers, but I did find a box labled Stage II that added fuel pressure on Dr. P's site. It was a shot in the dark, but 1+1 appeared to equal 2. When you post pictures of the box and connectors, I should be able to tell what it's plugging into and identify it's purpose more clearly.

its a mechanical pump meaning the injection pump provides the pressure to pop the injectors open, nothing controls max pressure so to speak like in common rail, the only way to get more power out of the mechanical pumps via fuel only is to increase the durration, or lenth of time the fuel is injected. only two kinds of ways to make power out of the second gen trucks is timing boxes and fueling boxes, where the EZ is more of a timing, and the tst is more of a durration. i hope that makes sense. I would say, if its not causing any excessive heat and power feels good leave it on. and then when you get pics we can help identify it.
