?? Are both ends NOT connected ????

Do both ends have factory crimps ???

I'll look around my 02,

Appears to be an after market removal...

Like I said before its gotta be the cable that runs from the fuse box to the alternator, and it looks like they made their own wire to go to it

Only a small maybe 8 AWG connected directly to the neg battery terminal.

I just noticed my complete amount of ineptitude..... (and I have a degree in electronics... . )

That little black wire is tied to the POSITIVE terminal and runs to the 140A fuse... . as someone stated earlier it is obviously too small for the job and thusly will be replaced tomorrow when NAPA opens.

Mopartech, I appreciate your help. I assume that this black wire that is unhooked is probably what was originally running to the alternator, but there is now a large gauge (2-4 AWG) red wire running to it and it follows a different path through the engine compartment. Maybe whomever commented about the reroute of the cable due to APPS electro-magnetic interference was right about that.

Oh, yeah.

That's the Fram Oil Filter warning system power cable. When it's hooked up, your motor will climb off of it's mounts under the hood, come around to the drivers side door and ask you if you are out of your flipping mind.

Your problems aren't that cable. The psi the Cummins oil pump puts down is WAY too much for that POS Fram filter. Changing it next week might be too late. I would change it now.

Right now.

I like your sense of humor. :-laf

I seriously did not install that filter, it really was on the truck when I bought it and I had NO IDEA that Fram filters sucked so bad. I promise it is on the way out of the engine bay ASAP. Hopefully before the CTD comes around and slaps me.

After a second look it might be the "hot" wire from the alt to batt. Did someone wire in a battery isolator for a trailer/camper?

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. The left terminal under the fuse relay cover (shown in the picture) is the fused side main connection off of the batteries. It looks like that cable once connected there, but I can't be sure.

I have about six additional connections placed on that lug on my truck and I am getting to point where I need a make a bus.

The grid heaters have there own connection directly to the left battery and it does not cross over to the alternator area, but drops straight down to the grid heater relays. At least on my truck it does.
