Unknown Chime

Driving along on the highway towing a heavy (12,000 lb) 5th wheel in 25+ mph headwind up hill (U. S. 95 North of Vegas) - working pretty hard in Tow/Haul mode at about 55 mph. I let off the throttle to pull off the highway and I hear 4 chimes - ding, ding, ding, ding. It's the same chime you would get if you had your seatbelt off, if you were low on fuel (I wasn't) or some other warning. No check engine light, no trouble codes, nothing. Any thoughts on what may have caused the chimes?



This happened during a 1,200 mile road trip with the trailer, up hill, down hill, cold weather, hot weather (including Death Valley and Zion National Park), no problems. I have not heard the chime again. I have my seatbelt chime turned off, so it wasn't just my wife adjusting her seatbelt, etc.

I didn't see you in the truck with me - how did you know? I pulled off the highway because one of the storage panels on my 5th was swinging open - high wind must have turned the two latches. I slowed down on the way to the ramp so the panel wouldn't swing too hard. Since i was already going pretty slowly I put on my signal so the guy behind me would know that i saw the swinging panel and was looking for an exit.

That's how the truck tells you to turn off your signal? Guess I am not usually that guy with the signal on for 20 miles. I never knew.

Can't beat TDR wisdom...

Hey Inferno: Thanks from me too! Still new to the truck not quite a year old. Similar situation to Gabinov. TDR is so worth the money! Thanks again.
PS: On reading the manual, it does tell you that but I just glazed over it and missed it.

Having driven Ford Trucks all my life until 1/2007. I never had such a warning device or thought either. I did not want to read the book so I would be nice to the truck... ... ...

Then after 2000 miles I stomped on my throttle for the first time getting on a freeway.

I thought I did something bad to the engine when the ding, ding, ding, ding sounded. I found out the same way SNGLESHOT did.

The engine is a given, but it is amazing what technology we have in these trucks.

In some ways the Chevy's have more bells and whistles than Dodge does but they don't have "Party Mode" on the dome lights or the bulb out indicator to let you know if a bulb blew, very usefull features IMO. I don't know anyone with a Ford so I can't comment on them.

I'm also an ex-ferd guy. I liked everything about them except their engines, especially my last one, a 6. 0.

They had several little convieniences not available in our Dodges. Among several things I liked was the radio-off delay. After turning your key off, the radio kept playing untill you opened the drivers door.

WoodChuck, what is the "Party Mode" feature?

RHestand: My 08 rig has that radio delay convenience also... and you can adjust the time the radio will continue to play. One convenience that I like a lot and many overlook is the hour meter that is available. Turn key on and depress trip meter clearing button but not on trip miles. You press the button in with total miles showing and key turned on. . (engine is off) ... hold it for about 10 seconds and the engine hours will come up. Really neat.

"Party Mode" (straight from the owners manual) is a feature that turns off the dome lamps if you leave the door or doors open for more than about 15 min. I think that was a bright idea.
