Hello all,

The last three starts of my truck have cranked longer and longer. The last start the truck cranked for about three seconds, stumbled to a start and ran rough for about ten seconds. If I was in my old '95 I would say I had air in the fuel line.

I got a check engine light at that time and got these codes:

Code C

06 74

A4 46

00 00

I looked at the FAQ link to trouble codes and can't find it there. If anyone knows what these are or where to look them up I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance, O. :(

those don't look like the engine codes... it looks like you did the self test on the dash [hold down button on dash, then while holding turn key to run]

to check the codes, you don't need to press the button on the dash... just key on/off cycle 3 times but on the 3rd time leave the key in the run position... then you will get what ever codes you have, and will spell out "done" when it is finish

The ECM codes you get when you do the key-on three times are "P" codes and are engine related. The codes you get when you hold the trip meter button down and key on one time are "C" codes registered by the instrument cluster computer and are related to the other electronic systems on the truck.

"C" codes have two groups of numbers. The first two numbers is the actual code. The second two numbers is the number of engine starts since the code was registered, giving you an idea of how long ago the problem (or perceived problem) occurred. Your "06 74" for instance, the "06" is "MIL indicator output circuit open" and the code was registered 74 engine starts ago. Here is what I have for the "C" code list…. with a few missing (don't know why):

Thank you, thank you,

That is what I did. I got the instrument codes instead of engine codes- I goofed. The engine code is P0301, Cylinder #1 misfire. I got ahead of myself and started a new thread on that. Engine misfire makes sense.

AK RAM thank you for those instrument codes. I am going to print those and keep them with my shop manual. I haven't seen those anywhere else.

Thanks again guys.
