Other than what it says on the title. Is there a website that lists this? I am trying to find out what this is on my newly acquired 2001 for registration purposes.

Tom

I would just take to the closest scale and weigh it. I would have a low fuel tank, take off the spare and anything else that would come off easy, so it it would be as low as possible. Weighed mine once but I didn't take my advice. It was 7400#

Tom

It'll be in the low 7k range. Take it to a scale and find out. My 03 with toolbox, custom running boards, trailer hitches, etc... ... . never lighter than 8K

-Scott

That wouldn't help me out. On the title it says 6800, and I was hoping it was a few hundred pounds less. As it stands now I have to pay $153 a year for registration VS about $85 if it was lower.

My Reg Cab weights 7K with me in it. SNOKING

OK, thanks for the responses. I ran into this same issue when I registered my 94 about 5 years ago when I bought it, and was able to downgrade it to save some money. I guess it was mistakenly listed too light on the title.

If you do as Tom suggested and remove the spare, jack, fuel (most of it), all you can remove you may get down to 6500, without you in it of course. How do you have to proove to the DMV what it weighs? What trnsmission does it have? The 6'er is the heaviest of the bunch.

It was 2wd, no? 4x4 adds several hundred pounds.

My 2500 weighted in at 6800 when new. You may get yours under that by removing the spare, jack, anything else that's loose and weighting with a empty tank.

You could even remove the seats if it's close.

my 3500 drw QC 4x4 weighed in @ 7150 WITHOUT tool box , spare , tailgate , and allmost empty. So yeah 6800 should be good for ya as the drw right off the bat has 324 lbs worth of added extra tire (2) and rims (6) , and front hub adapter(2) weight right there

:edit:

Just read that it's a std cab too so there is another 100 or so lbs missing worth of seat , brackets , windows , doors , hinges , and extra sheet metal and body mounts. So I would even say 6500 lbs

:Edit , Edit:

Wait is it a std cab as you have a quad in the sig ... . oh darn I'm a mess

On the CAT truck scales at the local Flying J truckstop,

6,640 Lbs

Totally stock. No aftermarket items whatsoever such as bumpers, boxes, wheels, etc that add weight. 2001 Quad Cab short bed 4x4 5 speed manual trans.

last i checked, they go by the VIN Door tag for weight, no mater what you tip the scales at, they go by what the mfg says it weighs... . at least that is what I have been told.

It's not listed on that tag.

Some states may use the manufacturer's GVWR, which on my truck is 8,800 lbs. That is listed on the decal affixed to the driver's door jamb. So they are taxing you based on what the truck can weigh when fully loaded, not what it weighs empty.

PA asks for both. The GVW is on the door sticker, unladen weight is not.

On my old truck, the GVW is also 8800, but since the truck weighed 6500 I was able to register it at 7,000gvw. That's $81 a year for registration, VS $153 that the new one will cost. They said it has to be 500 pounds less than what I register it at, so it must weigh no more than 6500 empty to do that. :(

I only put a few thousand miles on it a year towing, so that's a lot of money for a seldom used vehicle.

Tom, is your 2001 a shortbed or longbed?

Somewhere on the internet is a listing of weights for our Rams. I'm looking for it now.

I believe it listed different years and drivetrain and bodystyle versions.

Heck it might be listed in a past issue of the TDR magazine if anyone can recall where it is.

My truck with running boards, tool box (loaded), hitch, normal junk in bed, full of fuel, normal junk in cab, and me usually runs around 8200-8400 lbs. Last time I went to the scrap yard (cleaned out my garage ;) ), I weighed in at just over 11,000 lbs. and the truck did not look all that heavy.
