:) We haven't had lead in gasoline since about 1982, don't you think it's about time to quit calling it "unleaded", how about "maybe" for regular, "don't you wish" for middle grade and "no way" for high test. bg
 
Some of us old geezers still haven't figgered out the 89 octane "middle grade" stuff. We just relate to "regular" and "Ethyl". :rolleyes: :-laf

Also- it's a bunch of marketing crappola with regard to the octane... .

up here in the hills, octane is 2 steps below flatlanders (85, 87, 89-respectivly) because the same rating is not required due to altitude. But... 89 is considered "high octane" here and they charge for it! In my opinion... . 89 should be priced as 89 regarless of geographic location!



Folks up here are all in a tizzy 'cause the auto mfgr may state a minimum octane requirement when it is not available above a particular elevation.
 
So how come when they added this new miracle additive to gasoline called lead, they raised the price?



Then when they removed this nasty poison from gasoling to make unleaded, they raised the price?



Kinda proves that oil prices are somewhat ambiguous no matter what the reason.
 
It's been my understanding that the lead was removed from gasoline by the EPA only because it conflicts with the catalysts used on modern cars. Anyone know if that's really the main reason?

Yes when the newer vehicles were introduced with cats it was recomended not to use leaded regular because it would burn out the kitty. Most people I knew purposely used it. :rolleyes:



The gas I haul is 87 regular unleaded 89 midgrade blended 60/40 & 92 premium

Arco sends their gas down the pipeline in a subgrade & brings it up to correct octane levels with Ethonal.
