unpleasant odor in cab

Whenever I use the windshield washers on my '04 2500 Quad Cab, an unplaeasant odor permeates the cab. The odor seems to be that of a distilled petroleum product but is not diesel fumes - raw fuel or exhaust. Bought the truck in late Nov '03, has 4,800 miles on it. Everything else is great - ride, room, noise level, etc. Starts great in the Iowa cold too!!!

some of the washer fluids out there have very aromatic substances in them, and since the air intake for the heating system is in the cowl, it will suck those vapors in. i tried some cheap fluid a couple years back, and every time i used it, my car smelled like the perfume counter at walmart.



try a different brand of washer fluid.

I think Loghauler is talking about the oil mist blowby vapor, not sure why the wipers make it worse, except possibly he has the poor cowl sealing like some guys have and the wipers somehow aggravate it

Welcome to the stinky Dodge club! Mine stinke like heck in the mornings and after a short drive when I come to a stop. the dealer says Im dreaming and get used to driving a "diesel" truck boy!. This is the 3rd Dodge and Ive also owned GM and Ford Diesels and none of them had this smell. Don't get me wrong, i love my truck but... the smell is a bother sometimes...

I get the terrible smell from the windshield washer fluid also. I am going to take my 04 in to the dealer and have them seal the cowl, as I have seen someone on the TDR do. I forget who did it, but I think he did something that Dodge should have done for our trucks before sending them out to us. I believe that they can take care of it as a warranty item. As I do'nt have a shop to work in anyway.
