I Am Still Waiting For #34???????????

Unsolicited Vendor Mail

Today I received my TDR Issue #35. Along with it I also received an unsolicited advertisement for DIESELMAX Diesel engine performance kits (Dr. Performance) individually addressed to me.

I am very careful where I post my personal information, and I know exactly where I do post my address, and who has access to it. While I do know that no one can hide on the Internet, I would expect that since I am a paid member of this site, my information would be kept out of the hands of vendors unless I specifically give it to them. Whether my address was taken from this site with or without the knowledge of the administration does not matter to me. The fact is that a vendor received and used my personal information. Everything points to this site as the source of the transgression since TDR is the only Dodge Diesel organization that has my home address.

As of today I am letting my membership lapse. I no longer will be associated with TDR, and whoever gave out my personal information can take my Membership and shove it up their rectum.

Have a Nice Day

Clarification

Point 1:

TDR Members have absolutely NO personal information stored on our website other than the following:

- Website Username

- User's E-mail (provided by member and not accessible to non members)

- User's Last name

- User's TDR Member Number

Anything else on the website was put there by the user, usually within their signature block or other discretionary fields.

No software on this website is linked electronically to the TDR database.

Point 2:

Here are the instances where we have provided member information to others:

1. A list of names/addresses was sent to Dodge (Fall, 2001) so that you could receive an invitation to Truckville if it was scheduled to play in your area last Fall.

2. In the past (early 2001 and prior), member lists have been shared with Chapter organizers so that invitations to local events could be coordinated. Beginning in mid-2001, however, if a Chapter requests this information, the TDR prepares and mails the postcard on behalf of the Chapter.

3. If a dealership/shop/parts warehouse is having an open house event that might benefit the membership to attend, we will provide a list of local subscribers so that invitations can be sent.

Note: If a subscriber has notified us that their information is "not to be shared or provided to any other source," they were excluded from any and all of the above list distributions.

I'd like to say that the GLTDR (a TDR chapter) doesn't solicit membership through a mail list, like what Robin mentioned having given to some of the chapters. Although it might build the chapter faster, I think it could be offensive to some. GLTDR respects the privacy of it's members and only posts personal information in the private forum, for GLTDR members only. There has been instances, when we have events at a members' home, where we have only posted pictures of their home and belongings in the private forum.

Just a little plug for the Great Lakes Turbo Diesel Registry.

GLTDR's membership continues to grow steadily, through word of mouth and discovery, here and other places, like events and breakfast meetings.

Doc

Robin, where and when were we asked if that information could be sent out to anyone for any purpose? I, for one, do not want my personal information shared with anyone for any reason without my expressed consent. I believe strongly in this.

I think the local and regional events is the proper place for me to be notified of something in our area that you (TDR staff) think might be beneficial to me to attend.

I do not want my personal information shared with anyone else for any reason without my consent. Thank you, Howard Smith.

OK Doc, if they need to know what I look like I guess I will show them your handsome mug at the last event I attended. Ladies and Gentelmen, Doc Tinker... .

Cliff,

I don't mean to bust your chops, but I was able to gather the following information about you with just two or three websites (not much effort at all):

Your first and last name.

Your EXACT date of birth.

Your EXACT place of birth.

Where you grew up.

When you joined the Navy.

What you did in the Navy.

When you left the Navy.

What ship you served on in the Navy.

How long you were on that ship.

Where you were last stationed in the Navy.

What rank you achieved in the Navy.

What city and state you currently live in.

Where you currently work, and its location.

There are 3 separate phone numbers, and two separate addresses for your name in the city in which you live.

NONE of this information is contained on the TDR website except your exact date of birth. Personally, I think you have shared way too much information about yourself on your own personal website. Information that can be much more damaging to you personally (identity theft, etc. ) than the TDR, or any other organization that may have shared your mailing address. I'm sure with a little more diligent digging, I could find more information.

I suggest that you remove the very personal information from your website, and also remove your birthday from your TDR profile.

Yes Scott... I know what is out there on me..... I put it there.

the numerous addresses, and phone #s are a puzzle though... only lived... ... . hehe... ...

so the info is out there... just showes how screwed up our personal info is to all who want it bad enough
