Unsolicited Vendor Mail

Today I received my TDR Issue #35. Along with it I also received an unsolicited advertisement for DIESELMAX Diesel engine performance kits (Dr. Performance) individually addressed to me.

I am very careful where I post my personal information, and I know exactly where I do post my address, and who has access to it. While I do know that no one can hide on the Internet, I would expect that since I am a paid member of this site, my information would be kept out of the hands of vendors unless I specifically give it to them. Whether my address was taken from this site with or without the knowledge of the administration does not matter to me. The fact is that a vendor received and used my personal information. Everything points to this site as the source of the transgression since TDR is the only Dodge Diesel organization that has my home address.

As of today I am letting my membership lapse. I no longer will be associated with TDR, and whoever gave out my personal information can take my Membership and shove it up their rectum.

Have a Nice Day

I once heard of someone who subscribed to all the junk mail they could and burned it in the wood stove to heat the house. I suppose email would put an end to that.

Good idea

Someone e-mailed me the other day and said that when you get junk mail with a paid envelope, put some pizza coupons in it or something and mail it back to them. Let them throw your trash away. Make sure you address is not in it of course. I get junk on the puter from people I don't know or heard of. I think they can get addresses from looking at e-bay or anywhere. I even got an offer to buy several e-mail addresses for a price.

10-4 , Hope you'll get a response soon.

DEZLPWR - not sure if you were kidding but I couln't find a response elsewhere. ??

Respecting DF's feelings, I think he should have emailed TDR first. Beyond that, speaking for myself, I would have just thrown it in the trash where it belongs. My concern is not that I get trash mail/email as I get a lot but that someone uses my info in a harmful way.

There is one thing you can do though but it will take some work to keep track of the data if you are really serious.

What you do is vary your name and or mailing address. Let's say you order from XYZ company and you would usually use your name "John B Doe. For XYZ, use JB Doe. For YZX use J Brent (or whatever) Doe. Or make up a company name for yourself then your name and address.

Trust me, you will find out in short order who is selling your name. The trouble is though, XYZ will pass it on to someone else. What you need to do then is every so often, change the name you give XYZ. As I said, it takes effort.

For 2002, I set up my farm as an LLC (limited liability corporation). Trust me when I say my nuisance mail and phone calls have increased.

I will also say that I am not vain and can and do cuss with the best of em'. But, the descriptions that accompany junk emails offend me. I would like to see that stopped.
