If you have a dealer installed lock and cablle, you better try the key, before you need it. Dealer gave me the wrong key and I didn't know it for four mo.

I worked at a dealer that got hit...

When they figured it out was when a customer wanted to know where his $68 spare tire was when picking up his new truck. They sent me to look at the 50 or so trucks we had. Most were gone but some didn't have one to start with.

Their first action was to take the tires that weren't stolen off the trucks and put them in an upstairs storage area. Of course they didn't want to bother writing down the stock # of the truck it came off of. Then the salesmen were in charge of keeping track of weather or not the truck they just sold was to get a spare and which spare it was.

After realizing most salesmen are as energetic as pond scum, they decided to lock the tires to the trucks and "give" that whole $4 item to the customer.

When I left the place there were still 3 or 4 brand new spare tires without a home. One customer that did notice his spare missing wouldn't accept a close but not quite (they already gave away the right one for his truck) spare tire. They had to order a new tire and wheel. :)

My 2001 came with a nice cable lock, but I think I'll order one of those "QuickLocks". They look a lot better than the cable, and much harder to cut through. Anyone expecting to do the job quickly with cable cutters is going to have to back off and go get different tools; they'll probably just pick an easier victim.
