I was driving to work today(sunday triple time:D )and noticed that I went through almost a 1/4 tank ,usually I don't even notice the fuel guage has moved when going to work but today I did. I did not check it the past few days because I just filled it . It just turned 14000 miles ,I changed the fuel filter 3 times already . I'm new to the diesel engines, can any one help.

thanks

Don't just go by what your guage says. They aren't very accurate. Maybe you didn't fill your tank as full as you normally do which resulted in the guage moving sooner. Poor fuel mileage is something that, to check accurately, must be done over time, and after a few tanks. And you have to drive the truck in a consistent manner each time. Like, the same proportion of city vs highway driving, tame vs racing, etc. Then, when it is determined that is your mileage has dropped, you can start trouble shooting.

Have you changed any parts lately? (fuel filter, air filter, or upgrades?) Have you noticed any change in perfomance? How does it drive? Bad fuel is a known culprit, and so is winterized fuel. If you have noticed any change, then it will be easier to narrow it down.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

same fuel

The fuel I get is from the same place,do stations change the fuel seasonally,if so that could be the problem,I was thinking on going to a winter fuel anyway because of the area I live and travel in. I hope that is the case.

Poosible problem.....

BigDig,

My buddy noticed the same thing on our 45 mile drive to work. He went through about a 1/4 tank. We crawled under it that afternoon and found that the tank had shifted slightly or was insalled incorrectly. Actually had a pinhole rubbed through and was losing fuel because of the vacuum that was created when at highway speeds. Dealer took care of it for him. Hopefully you get yours taken care of.

Best of Luck

Russ W.
