I was driving on snow/ice covered roads today. Temp was hovering near zero but there was some moisture coming up off the road which was being warmed by the sun in spots. I stopped to pull an old gent in a Honda Accord back onto the highway. As i drove off I noticed the park brake warning lamp and ABS warning lamp were both on. I verified that the parking brake was not on or dragging (drums in rear were cold) 10 miles down the road. When I got home I put the truck in my heated garage. Ten minute later both warnings were clear. I suspect a sensor got wet/frozen etc.

when you were pulling the guy did you spin your tires? If so the ABS computer sees the speed mis-compare between the sensors and decides that there is something wrong with the system. It should self clear in a couple of miles. This is how it works with a 3rd gen anyway, I doubt its much differant for you truck.

This happens on my '97 if I use 4 wheel drive for any significant length of time. For me, the lights always go back off after a couple miles on pavement in 2wd. Unless the lights begin to come on regularly, or you notice odd braking, I wouldn't worry about it.

I've also had those lights come on if there has been a pressure differential front/back on the system (when changing pads). Usually restarting clears it.

If it keeps happening you probably have salt water intrusion in the harness or one of the wheel speed sensors. Use a scanner to fiure out which one. One of them will be reading low/no wheel speed when driving. The problem is easier to see at lower vehicle speeds.

I've had this happen when spinning my wheels on ice, even in 4wd. If you don't have any physical problems with the sensors, it's probably from this.

small world ...

after 4 years and 70k miles mine did the same thing the other day ...

came up my driveway on a single digit snowy day, took my truck out of 4 wheel for the switchback in my drive way ... back tires were spinning and fronts were still so i hit the brakes to put it in 4 wheel drive ...

as soon as i hit the brakes the abs and brake light lit up ...

took three key cycles to turn off the lights
