Steve,

Previously when reading a thread, when I clicked on "View First Unread", the page would just jump to the unread post unless it was on another page.

Now, most of the time, it seems to re-load the entire page before jumping to the unread post.

This is only a minor irritant from this end, but doesn't it greatly increase the site's bandwidth usage and slow things down for everyone?

That's the way the new software works and there's a good reason for it. It doesn't increase bandwidth because the pages would completely load while you were reading anyways. The reason to jump to the unread post after the page has loaded is because when there are pictures in a thread they change the length of the thread as they load. So if you had a thread that had say 20 pictures in it and it jumped to the first unread post right away as the pictures loaded you would see the post you want to read slide off the bottom of the page and you'd have to scroll down to it. That's the way it's worked in the past - so with this version of vBulletin they've changed it so that the page loads and then it takes you to the first unread message.

I just re-read your message and see that your clicking on the view first unread link after the post is loaded. Instead of doing that when you click on the thread itself click on the down arrow just to the left of the subject and it will take you to the first unread message directly after the page loads - no need to use that view first unread link.
