Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) up date on caught in calif smog limbo

after talking to three shops and three dealers all telling me the same story Dodge does not make a cat for a 12 valve 1998 diesel any more and finding out that you can't buy an after market cat. I asked for arbitration whow the state does not run the program, an outside vender does. First they informed me that they would and did e-mail me a list of 15 parts houses to contact to obtain a cat and that I needed to contact all 15 well they all said the same thing it is illegal to sell an after mk cat for my truck in calif and you can't install one either. second step i took the arbitration number they gave me call the arbitrator. You can't talk to a real person you leave you name address and whats going on they will mail you their dicession "in a month or so" so now i wait I took my truck to another shop to see if it would pass That person told me that when he interred my information that my truck had failed do to visual inspection so now i needed to tell him what failed and show repair orders on the work to fix the problem, before he can retest. A little side line: we have people cutting the cats out of trucks that are in parking lots and sell them for the scrap metals involved.

Here in San Diego we have a tv consumer advocate named Turco. He'd relish a story like this. Maybe it's time to get your local tv station involved. Unreal.
