2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Up/Down or In/Out Steering movement

Not sure if this is going to make sense but there is an Up/Down or In/Out feeling of movement in the steering column.

Example: I'm stopped at a light. When I accelerate to take off it feels as if the steering is moving towards me. Going over bumps

I can feel movement in the steering wheel.

Any ideas?

I would say it's your steering shaft. I just replaced mine and it make a world of difference. I went with the stock shaft, but there are other options available.

What the heck happens to the steering shaft to cause this?
