sold my truck, don't know what to do

another injector pump question

Does anybody know if I can get more then 20psi. out of a stock turbo? My pump is turned up 105 and I have the 240 HP injectors. I have just a stock turbo housing. :)

What is "turned up 105"? Also, what are those injectors? What year is your truck? Does it have the 21cm turbine housing or the 18. 5cm housing?

There are many variables, but it is relatively easy to get the stock turbo over 20psi. If you go much beyond 25psi then the compressor is going to start to loose efficiency.

Sean

I pushed my stock turbo to 32psi. I know of others who have gone much higher (not real good for it though). Since the stock turbine housing is not wastegated you must go to a smaller housing to increase boost. Well, I guess you can increase boost by increasing fueling, but I am guessing you are looking for more air, not fuel. The most common and versatile turbine housing is the 16cm2. This will give you quicker spool-up, and more boost. A PDR turbo is also a good air upgrade.

Now that I read your question again I am a little confused. What do you mean by "My pump is turned up 105... ”? Also, I haven't heard of a 240hp injector for a first gen.

Mike

All right formula, now I KNOW you are doing that on purpose. I didn’t even stop for a potty break this time. You must have a hidden camera so you can see when I am going to post, and you hit "submit reply" just before I do. :p Not that it bothers me at all, I just look kind of silly posting much of the same info as you do. Oh well. :-laf

Mike

I'm running a pumpthat was turned up 10% and injectors belt to 240HP from "Northland diesel performance" in Bellingham WA. I was told of a internal adj. on the turbo. But I have never seen.

My truck is a W350 4x4 5 speed open exhuast big open K&N air filter. And the pump up 10% and 240HP injectors.

Smoky', formula, get along now boys you know we love you both the same..... :p ;)

NeedMo, I'm going to venture a guess that you are well into the overboost range for that turbo/housing combo.

The stock WH1C map is about 28-30 psi boost MAX.....

Beyond that you are into high drive pressure(s) and excess EGT issues... . now that's just my opinion mind you. .

diesellund, you should expect to see up to 25-28 psi with your setup ... I also do not know what the "240 HP" injectors are.

It's likely someones/companies personal reference for a given make/rating of injector..... kinda like the Lucas are referred to as the POD's.

There really is a limited number of injector options out there for our generation of truck.

Pump turned up 10% is not alot by todays standards, and settings being run on the street.

A stock auto trans will see less boost than a modified auto, or stick transmission as well.

Bushwakr, I've been out in the bush myself for the past week. Am just reading the forem entries that I missed. Let me comment that not only are you a great moderator, you're a real helpful guy. I know it takes a lot of energy to keep track of so many comments but, you're always there. Hats off to ya!!!!!!!!!! I've got a story for you guys. Talked to Piers already and he helped me diagnose the problem. Put on a new "370hp diamond B" marine head, and didn't make 100 miles before it dropped a valve seat. Ate the head, piston and cylinder wall before I get stopped. Cummins says its a "misapplication" to use a 370hp head on a 160 application and won't even warrant the head, much less than my trashed engine. Piers said he's seen two others do the same thine. Perhaps the lesson is don't get the marine head - valve seats are just one more thing to fail - and if they do they DESTROY that cylinder. That's why I never got back about the gov springs I purchased. Motor dead! Hang tough men and my advice is forget the marine heads!! This was not a recon, it was new. Henry

:( :( WOW, Henry, I'm sorry to hear that story bud... gives me shivers just thinkin about it...

I appreciate the compliment(s) Henry... . I guess all I can say is I'm 'hardwired' to like to help.

When I mess up I take it personally and no one is harder on me than myself.

You guys make this job a piece of cake to be honest... even mark... . that lunatic... you gotta luv his style though... :):)

NeedMo', man on man, if I knew yer address I'd park out front and bushwack the UPS man..... gone in a flash bud..... ;);)

I think the PDR HX35/16 will be my next purchase/upgrade, that and an LSD if I had a donor... . hint hint...

Bob.

Hey fletcher, QUIT DOING THAT! Bob is hard enough to live with as it is. You keep patting him on the back like that and he'll expect us to bow down to him and kiss his feet.

And Bob,, NO , you are STILL not getting that turbo!!

And what the heck is a 240 injector? I've heard of 235's. I know Northland is very concervitive when it comes to pump adjustments. After all, they do warrant their work.

Diesellund, one thing I know about Northland diesel, when they say they "turned up" a pump, all they do is turn the star wheel in and rotate the pin. They don't mess with the fuel screw. Why, I don't know. So if you want more boost and power, bring the star wheel back up and turn in the power screw. How do I know this? I went through 3 (three) pumps of theirs before this one and it seems to be working ok for now. It was so un-reliable I wouldn't let my wife drive it.

I have learned my lesson, from now on if I have a pump issue I will go to Piers and do away with all the head aches I have had.

And if you really want more, get a Piers modified HX35. After injectors, probably the best investment you can make.

dave

Well, I don't know squat about Northland, but I think everyone has a bad day now and then... . heck, even Piers says so on occasion... ;)

You do have to remember that they want a warranty on their stuff as Dave said too, so they probably go easy on the pumps. That's ok though, it leaves room for "home improvements":)

I've pretty much given up any hope of test burning that turbo Dave, I knew from your first post after it was on that it was a going, going, gone item..... but it went to a good home... . :):)

I think I need to sneak up on ole mark, and peak at his.

I'm really looking forward to PDR's Opening day "open house" for some decent 1st Gen HP numbers you guys, so get your shtick together.

Mid March is the goal for opening, and I'd like to see some honkin decent attendance and numbers from all you guys, so get wrenchin, keep mid month clear, and stand by... .

I know that it will be a chance to tweak and tune, I'm sure that anyone who wants a bit of tuning done can get one of the guys or heaven forbid, even me, to help with it. .

Now if I could only find an LSD that needed adoption to a good home... . anyone know were mark lives... .

LSD

Hey Bob, you need to lay off the LSD... :D

Sorry... couldn't resist!

I had a local 4x4 shop install a Powerlok limited slip about a year ago. I'd been teetering on the ragged edge of getting a Detroit locker, but decided with all the highway miles I drive, an LSD set up pretty stiff would be the best way to go. From my research at the time, the best options for the Dana 70 seemed to be the Powerlok and the Tracklok (spelling?). According to my local 4x4 shop the Powerlok was by far the best way to go, so I went that route.

I had an open rear diff before, and I had to engage 4wd even to climb mild hills in icy conditions--now, I *very* rarely have to engage 4wd at all! Go for the Powerlok!

Mike

Actually Mike, you're right on... we/I toss around the term LSD but it was either the PowerLok or Tracklok... I also think you're right on the better of the two... .

Bob.

Henry- That's a real shame on your motor.

What is the reasoning behind the valve seat failing in that aplication? How is the marine head different? Makes no sense to me.

Bob,

I'm not BSing about the camera watching my truck. I hate to see you lose that stick. :D

Jay, there's no good reason for what happened. The marine head is supposedly built for high temp operation and 370hp. My little truck isn't near that, and my egt's were under 1000. I figure that when they (Brazilians) machined out for the seats, one hole was out of tolerance for some reason. No warranty, however, because I wasn't using it in a marine application. I intend to visit Cummins, Irvine, this week with head in hand, however. Can't hurt to try person to person.

What is paradoxical is that of all the components I installed this is the one whose longevity I had the highest confidence in.

There is no date as of yet to the "open house" of the new shop at PDR. When the dyno is in and the shop is set up, the open house will be announced. Oo.

Bob, I got it all figured out. You grab Marks truck with a chain and drag it down the street, I'll park my truck in it's place. When Mark wakes up all sleepy eyed and looks at his monitor, he won't notice the trucks all shiny. Then I'll drive my truck the other way. When the cops show up, I can prove it's my truck.

During all the commotion, you paint Marks truck whith white spray paint. He's so vain he won't admit the possibility that he owns a WHITE truck.

Now you'll have all the time you need to swap parts.

Think this will work?

Did I mention you need to dress up as a rubber chicken?
