WHAT a delima if the "new" Cummins WAS a V8 - after all the ridicule we've aimed at the Ford and GM camps - I guess we could salve our pride that at least it sez "Cummins" on it... :-laf :-laf
Gary,it will be a inline 6. coobie :)

Since I started this thread I was at a meeting with some Class 8 truck people... . Over the road trucks... ... and one of the things we were talking about was the cost to meet the next threshold (2007 and 2010) in emissions... .

The engine vendors are predicting a $ 10,000 upgrade to meet this... . and that means all units sold after a certain production date... One of the things that's happening is every one in the industry right now has scheduled their production for the 06 year... . all are sold out... every major trucking fleet in the US has either ordered or started to receive units that are pre-2007 to get under the new rules...

I'm guessing that we're going to see some of these costs passed on to us... . I'm hoping that the technical stuff cummins has learned making several million of our 5. 9 will give them an advantage in the big engine market as well as cost savings when it comes to our needs... .

Theres rumors that most class 8 truck builders don't have enough orders into 2007 to make a profit... . and that there could be some fall out... ... . (out of business)... but only time will tell... . but plant closures are not out of the question... .

I'm off subject so I'm going to close for now... .

There better damm well be a new 7 or at least 6 speed manual ... or no dice.

Most likely... . No dice.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the 4500's and 5500's run a high risk of going the way of the powerstroke... Auto's only in 4500+ trucks.

This is not because Auto's are stronger, but more because drivers are dumber.

Most 4500's+ are going to be driven by "employee's" rather than owners... .

(this IS a commercial truck we are speaking of... )

That would truly be sad ... I will never own a automatic (well I guess my BX23 Kubota with hydro-static drive doesn't count since I need my hands on the controls), I hate automatics with a passion that most of you folks can't imagin. I hope this will not be my last Dodge truck.

It will get to the point where all equipment is "auto", "hydrostat" or whatever else they can come up with. It cuts down on employees abusing the equipment as much, which cuts down on warranty claims. Think about it, an auto/hydrostat is nice steady power, not the constant loading and unloading of the drivetrain like a stick is. With the new electronics that are out there I can see a time when a vehicle won't tow an ounce over the maximum allowed by the manufacturer.

BIG BROTHER??

Of course this is all my opinion, but it does make you think.

Gauges

Does anyone know if they will be offering a more suitable gauge package including boost, EGT, etc. ?

The average worker in mexico is around $2 US/Hr.

To do a quick Peso/Dollar conversion, just knock off the number on the far right...

That truck would cost roughly $30,900. 00 with a diesel.

The more expensive an item is, the less accurate the number drop method is.

Here's another option that's available:

"New for 2007 is an optional oil level sensor that operates like an electric dipstick, eliminating the need for the daily check of oil level. "

They say confession is good for the soul, so here goes:

I don't check my oil level daily!!! :{ :{

Why should I - I've never had to add oil between changes since I've owned the truck! :)

mine usually only gets checked properly after an oilchange. other than that, i'll pull the stick when fueling to see that there is oil on it. if it is wet, it is good to go
