Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) UPDATE-4500 Issues

After numerouse transmission problems, this one lasting aprox 12,000 miles, transmission was pulled, inspection plate removed. 5 teeth missing off of 3rd gear and oil has alot of metal particles in it. Mech says I'm too hard on transmission. Don't think so. No pulls, accelerating on hard pavement. I think something is out of wack in case allowing gears to not make a good contact after being set up (shafts moving or flexing on acceleration). Any ideas would be appreciated. Mech says he can replace the case but will be really expensive. Is this guy just looking for excuses or is he a bad mech. Says he sets 4-6 of these up a month. Any help would be appreciated.
