this is a copy of a dealer notice from d. c

2003 dr trucks equipped with a nv5600 six speed manual trani

may exhibit a rattle/knocking noise from trani when it is in

neutral and the clutch pedal is released. the noise typically

decreases or is eliminated when the clutch pedal is depressed.

the noise occurs only at idle when no load is placed on the clutch or trani. although this noise may sound questionable, there are no durability concerns with the clutch or the trani and no repair

attempts should be made.

When does it show up?

My new truck finally arrived today:DOo. :D

Although I officially do not take delivery until tomorrow (still need to clean-it/finalize paperwork), I was able to take it for a short test drive. After all the postings, I was really trying to hear noises from the transmission, but was unable to detect anything.

Is this something that shows up right away, or does it take a while?

I have it on good authority (read: straight from the factory's mouth) that a minor change to some of the internal bearings on the NV5600 cured the noise. However, those transmissions that do have the noise are not prone to any problems... it's meerely a "nuisance" issue.

NOISE

My noise in neutral with the Clutch out is GONE! They replaced the clutch and the noise dissapeared... ... thought I would let you-all know the outcome. The dealer put 2 new transmission's in it... didn't do anything (of course) until they attacked the clutch (yes, I asked them to... . they obliged... . and WAH-LAH! Presto... GONE!)
