Update Engine Hesitation

My dealer finally got a pressure gauge to check fuel pressure it took 2 months I posted several weeks ago and recived good info from people here it was a lift pump. they ordered one so they would have it. They called today and said it was the pump but they had the wrong one the part no. changed should have it Wednesday. I will get their results of the pressure when I pick the truck up I tried testing the fuel pressure on the filter housing and by the injectors on the Schrader fittings and got nothing on 2 gauges I talked with a cummins dealer who is far from me but said you can't check of those fittings yuou have to remove the banjo bolts. what and where are the banjo bolts for future use. Will post and let you know if the pump waas the problem

You have to remove the core from that fitting or have a fitting that depresses that core. You can get a core removal tool at any automotive supply place. It just unscrews counter clockwise - have the engine off when you remove it and put a rag underneath it to catch fuel, then attach your gauge to it.

Steve the gauge i have threads on is the stem lik e on a valve stem I have a tool for that.

Steve, the truck runs and has power get get a heaitation when i shift or if I step on the throttle hard if you let up on the throttle and get back on it it stops. I also found it to be at 2500 rpm also when truck idles for extended time 10 minutes or so it will hesitate when you pull out and you see white smoke. 2001 2500 5 sp 4. 10 rear 10,700 miles

Extended idling is not good for your Cummins. I try not to ever idle more than five minutes unless the e brake is activated. The cooling system is so efficient that it can "overcool".

White smoke = not good

DNunemacher, you definitely have a fuel pressure problem if you are seeing white smoke with a warmed up engine, and maybe your injection pump is going south as a result. Your injection pump is not going to survive very long with inadequate fuel pressure/flow which it requires for cooling and lubrication.



A few days before Evan Beck's injection pump stroked out on his '98. 5 Ram I noticed light blue/white smoke coming from his exhaust even after it was good and warmed up (just did a run on the dyno). It ran fine, then it began to have trouble starting, and went downhill from there.
