Last month I posted a question about my transmission and how it was acting after a trip:
quote
Since I returned to sea level I have noticed something with my transmission that I never was aware of before. When starting off from a standstill with a light to medium throttle the transmission doesn't shift out of 1st gear until about 25 mph, which is 2200-2400 rpm, with my gearing. If I let off the throttle the rpm goes down to about 1000 as the truck coasts along, but gear doesn't shift. Back on the throttle rpm goes back up to 2200-2400 until truck gets to 25 mph and then it shifts to 2nd and just over 30 mph it shifts to 3rd. When I was on the trip with the camper I was mostly accellerating hard onto the freeway so I wasn't aware of this as a problem. Does the computer "learn"? Will it "unlearn" after a while in town? Or do I have a solenoid that is faulty, or some other problem? I could see nothing in the owner's manual that addresses the shifting speeds. When it does finally shift it does so with a bit of a bump. Oil level is normal, maybe just a tad high

I thought you may be interested in the outcome.
I called the dealer and he suggested that the computer had learned "new tricks" and it would settle down in time!! Well it didn't.
It was suggested that I call Bill Kondolay at DTT and maybe the filter he sells would fix the problem. I did that a couple of days ago. He called me back within the hour, and I explained the problem to him. At first he thought it might be the pressure reg or the solanoid, until I mentioned that I had an exhaust brake and a TC locker installed. He immediately said it was the TC locker and that I should take it off or disable it. This I did. I disabled the controller for the e-brake and TC ram and removed the connecting rod from the ram to the throttle valve. I road-tested and the difference was amazing. Shifts about 15 from 1st, unless I tromp on it and doesn't have the pronounced bump and the occasional shudder as before.
Over on the DTT forums there is some discussion about e-brakes and autos. It seems the user has to be very carefull about how they are used and in any case they hasten the demise of the TC. Particularly a stock transmission and TC. (Which mine is) The PO installed it, as he trailed something, and as I wont be trailing anything heavy (M/C trailer of about 650 lbs. ) I believe that I will remove the whole sheebang.
Thanks for listening,
Ian
