OK, i replaced the lift pump with the BG220. I don't have a regulator on it yet so it's putting out 20+psi tested at the filter. The truck fires up fine but after idling for a minute or 2 it starts to miss and run crappy. The strange thing is while it's idling it makes these weird "pop" sounds. kinda like a rattle, but real quick and only for a second. Could this mean the injector pump is bad too? Before replacing the lift pump, pressure was 0. Could the lift pump not working cause the injector pump to die also? Now, if it is the injector pump, can it be rebuilt? which one should i get and where?? I'm planning on doing some mods.

ps. anyone know where i can get service manuals from? 1998. 5 24 valve motor. Is the dealer the only place to get them? TIA

I have heard form a dodge tech that if you try to start your truck with a dead lift pump and truck will not start if you keep cranking and cranking dry that the injector pump will die with out diesel to lube the pump. Cummins is cheaper on inj pump then the dealer. If power and economy are about the same inj. pump is probably o. k. dont forget about fuel being blended lose a little economy.

If it starts, I wouldn't think it's the injector pump. It sounds to me like there may be some air in your fuel lines causing the noises. Will it stay running if you give it some throttle? If so check for a leak where the lift pump could suck air. Good Luck

I'd put the regulator in it & see if that helps--the stock pump is not close to 20 psi, so that could be the problem. I'd check for leaks just like CumminsAholic said. There's not a lot of info out there for upgraded pumps, so let us know if you got it fixed and what it was. How did you wire it up? chris

as for the wiring,i cut the connecter off of the old pump and pluged it back in, then i ran 14 guage wire back to the pump, which i mounted on the inside of the frame rail right in front of the fuel tank. well i guess i found atleast part of the problem yesterday when i was fixing what i thought was an o ring leak and found that my new pump was leaking between the motor and the pump,i guess replacing the fuel pump again is better than having to replace my injecter pump. i hear those things are expensive.

P. S. i really apreciate everyone's input. i am new to workingon these trucks, and need all the help i can get.
