Thanks to all who replied to my earlier post.
Well, didn't have enough time (it takes months to get something you order through our channels) to get the ethernet segment setup before this site went live, so, we decided to go through the app line by line and optimize it. (300 asp pages, more include files than i can remeber, over 150 tables, etc. . etc... ie: eyes will hurt for months!
). We made around 23 dbconnection optimizations and did some tuning to the db itself (remove unneccesarry indexes, etc... ). And you know what, this thing actually runs pretty quick. Connect from net to the server which is on ethernet (go figure), thru the firewall, then switch, then hop to the "chokin ring" segment (guys at work really loved that phrase, we've never heard it), across a zylan switch, hop a couple rings to the db server. I'm really impressed with how this thing responds. Just wonder what it would be like on a newer backbone.
