After geting the info from members I called dealer to ask if the magical gauge they need came in. It had not,I asked the service manager about the lift pump he said he hasn't had to replace any in the 5yrs he has worked at the dealership. I went to a friend we hooked a MAC TOOL gauge into the fitting to the front of the engine a schrader fitting(unsure of the spelling),gauge didn't move it trraded on no problem not sure why it didn't move. They are heavy truck mechanics. I then went to local cummins truck center guy said they don't work on them, and didn't have any info on them. His quote was "it sucks but you have to goto dodge and they probably won't know what is wrong". Also yesterday Iwas at a drivethru bank aand the truck almost stalled while waiting first time that ever happened. I also talked to another daoge dealer who was leaning towards water in the fuel,an air leak,or a sensor. I may take it there if the other dealer doesn't get the gauge this week. The dealership did offer a rental car but I told them I bought a truck because I need a truck. they don't have any. My question is an air leak would be constant. and bad fuel would also give a constant problem. dealer was going to get pump so they can put in if it is bad.

An air leak would cause a a rough running diesel, not what you're describing. Also you probably would have trouble starting the truck, with air in the lines.

I can't believe the dealership didn't have a fuel pressure gauge. I use one that I've had for years, to test fuel pressures on fuel injected cars. I think that dealer is blowing smoke, because they don't have anyone to work on diesels.

How many miles do you have on the truck, and what year is it?

If you have no pressure after the filter, check before the filter, there is another schrader valve on the filter cannister. You might need a filter replacement.

It looks like you're gonna have to do some research and find a dealer that does a lot of Cummins service. Good luck

If you're going to have this dealer service you truck under warranty, be sure to tell the service manager that you ALWAYS fill out a customer survery.

When I had my lift pump replaced by a Dodge dealer, it took these bozos 3 days to fix it. This was after I told them I thought the lift pump was bad.

Warranty work is just lousy unless you can find a good dealer. I hear the phord boys complaining about the same problem.

I would try to find another dealer if possible.

For me, I carry a spare lift pump and will replace it myself instead

of dealing with bozos at the Dodge dealership even though it is covered under warranty.

I will gladly pay $130. 00 NOT to have to go with the frustration and not having my truck for that many days. By the time you pay for a rental car for 3 days, it is a wash to me.

Magical guage ?

Boy are the blowing smoke . Most of the guages are both air or fluid compatible as they use a system of spring tube (flex metal) If I can remember right called a boron tube, so I guess they are smoking , navy did that before Radar.   :D

To Doc

Doc the truck just turned 10,000 miles the problem developed in early May I didn't think the gauge was any thing special I will look for the other fitting and try again Monday. The truck seems to runfine except for the hesitation when it happens. I have a tractor with a loader and hauled it no problem ,unhooked the load and had a few hits coming home. Is it correct that there are 2 pumps another dealer who claims to have a diesel mechanic said that the lift pump is it. I will pick up a cummins filter thanks to this site no more $46 dollar mopar filters the savings on the filter will pay for the sit! thanks I forgot 2001 5 speed 4. 10rear
