I just did major shotgun upgrades. T-REX, 3kGSK, slid #11 full forward, AFC full forward, ( shop installed new injectors and injector pump after bad fuel ate em up)2 years ago in portland- they were a ford shop come to find out. they said they installed 275hp injectors but i think they don't fit the 12valve?? so not sure what injectors. 4" exhaust, AFE filter setup etc... Thing is now I have mass power, expected black smoke (tamed it down a bit with AFC adjuster) BUT my EGTs can hit 1500 in a heart beat. WHATS UP?? Any thoughts? what am I missing? Timing? I still have stock turbo and don't really want to spend the $$ on a new one right now.

Thanks will get that done soon. I'm checking to see the cost of dyno and timing adjust at Piers, in BC on the way through from Alaska to CO. Once you dyno you can't tell stories anymore but will be nice to know what i got.

pull 'em back

Hi AK, just move the plate back somewhere close to the middle or stock position, and reinstall the AFC housing in the middle too.

This will cut back the fuel and some of the power, but any GSK and plate will perform a lot better than stock.

You didn't mention what boost you are getting, install a boost elbow if you haven't yet, any added boost up to 35-39psi or so will help cool down the EGT's

Find a test hill and make a few runs that you can repeat, note the boost and EGT's, move the plate and AFC back, and repeat the runs on the hill, and note the changes. This is a poor-man's dyno. Adjust to give a good compromise between power and EGT's

If you can stop by Piers and get them to tweak and set everthing up, you will be very happy with your engine. He is the 12V Guru!!

Just remember: you can't throw tons of fuel at the engine without giving it more air [turbo] and not get high EGT's, so just cut back the fuel a bit to control the EGT's.

Hope this helps, Greg L

Thanks greg, I'm getting about 35-37 pis boost. I might try the plate and AFC move because i seem to have plenty of power. I do have an 8500lb trailer and a 580 case that i need to move in the next day or so, so we'll see how that does. I will move the plate first.

Poor Man's Dyno

Hi Kirk, now that load will make a good 'dyno run' !! My old Case 580CK with extend-a-hoe has to weigh at least 10K plus your trailer and truck, so you will be total 25-27K !! That's a load!

Just make sure you have brakes to stop it!

I'll be interested to hear how it does with the AFC and plate moved back.

Take Care, Greg L The noise Nazi.
