Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) upgraded camshaft?

What kind of performance can you get out of a upgraded camshaft? have to run fly cut pistons if you modify your camshaft right?



What engine components can be ceramic coated and or other heat treatments?

The performance from a good cam is subtle..... Normally you can expect to see better turbo spoolup, lower egt's, slightly better mpg, and some HP gain. Depending on the cam chosen the piston may or may not need to be cut. There are several good grinds that don't cut pistons out there that actually have more lift and better performance than the ones that cut the pistons.



As for coatings I would say pistons are probably the most popular followed by exhaust manifold.

I was thinking of coating pistons,rods,crank,valves,pushrods etc...

I've got a street puller cam in my 12V, and my buddy has a helix 2 in his 12V. Both give comparable improvements in spoolup and egt's, and I'd recommend a cam if you're already set on digging into the engine. If not, then I'd do a new turbo to help airflow first.

Both trucks are heavily overfueled and driven hard, so mileage and smoke differences seem negligible.
