upgrading 89 model

Whats some things I can do to start out with to upgrade a 89 model turbo for quicker spooling??

Check out the sticky thread at the top that refers to stage 1,2,3&4. Some simple pump tweaks (fuel pin, starwheel, smoke screw, timing adjust) can help dramatically with spool up. Easy to do and no cost. Once you start doing much more, it starts costing $$$.



Beware!!! Once you start, the slpie is downhill and coated with vaseline (it's long and slippery)!! I was going to stop at 200RWHP. Now I'm trying to get over 300 with 350 already in the plans. Oo.

Get a 16cm exhaust housing for it, 2-3lbs more boost and quicker spool. I suggest a PDR HX35 new/modified turbo found on 94-98 12 valves. Coupled with the 16 housing, good combo.

Yep. 16 cm housing for your stock turbo is a good place to start.

Then you can rotate the fuel cone to max, adjust starwheel, and don't forget an improved air filter (several choices), and upsized exhaust.

Gauges, gauges, gauges!! Make sure you know what effect the pump tweaking has on your exhaust temp. If you can, put 'em on before you do anything else, so you'll know what your baseline numbers are.
