2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission upgrading brakes

are there any way to get better braking on older second gens i have a 96 and have already replaced all the lines with stainless and put the EGR rear disk conversion and i still think my brakes suck is there any way to put the bigger 2 piston calipers from a 01 or 02 in my truck or does the whole axle have to be changed and are there any aftermarket big brake kits

I have been told to install a hydo unit off a 98. I have talked to a guy that has done this. The vaccume boster is not as good as the later models. This is what I was told to do to the 95 that I have. This is not as hard to do as I had thought. regards Jim

I have replaced nearly every component of my brakes in the last two years. They went from terrible to not to bad to terrible again. I ended up in the last two weeks replacing the Calipers (EGR not the two piston), pads (EGR carbon kevlar), and master cylinder (EGR) and larger wheel cylinders (EGR). I also did a drivers side front hub while I was at it. The rotors were already EGR from two years ago. Both calipers were pretty much gone and eating the inner pad. The braking improvement is incredible. I don't know that they are as good as my Dad's 01 but it is still better. The biggest problem was the master cylinder. How is your master cylinder? The next item is possibly the vacuum pump if the peddle sinks at idle you are probably losing vacuum. I guess I didn't suggest much, but this is what I have done. It has helped considerably along with the exhaust brake.

I taked to a guy that told me he had done the change over several times an has had good results. He is sending me the info to my email asap. I would like to talk to the folks at EGR and see what they have to offer. thanks for any info regards Jim

Sounds like maybe the cause is inadequate boost from the vacuum unit. Seems it would be a LOT cheaper and easier to address that than do the whole EGR scenario. Sig might not look as cool, but stopping is the goal, right?!

Might be wrong, but I think EGR only calipers for the 3/4 tons are the stock ones they blueprint. The oversized calipers from EGR are for the 1500, not our 2500's. Wish they did ake them for the 2500's. I like the looks of theirs with the kidney shaped piston. Tony Oo.
