Here my question should I get a newer trans like a 2004 automatic or just have my 95 super rebuilt. What would be the best way to go. I love the 12 valve engine and It runs super. I want to pull a car trailer and want the trans to hold up

Your '95 uses a 47RH, the later trucks use a 47RE. The biggest difference is the governor. It's a flyweight mechanical device for the 47RH. The 47RE uses an electronic governor. The '95 PCM can't deal with the 47RE.

if you changed the pcm and the wiring harness, then you could go with a newer transmission. That would be the worst thing you could do for reliability. the transmission in 94 and 95, built right, is the best transmission you can get in your truck. I am starting to like the new 05 48 re with the added brains in the PCM, but you can't beat the rebility of the mechanical govenor. When you have the trans built, add extra clutches in the orverdrive directs by going with the thinner steels, and have the sun gear and rear planet upgraded in the O/D. Make sure to go with a triple disk, and you will be good to go.

I was extremely happy with my choice of having my 47rh rebuilt and upgraded.

Something to also look into-Check to see if your transmission cooler lines have been upgraded. Stock they come with plastic clips to secure the fittings. These have been known to break.

Get it built-up. Then you'll be able to use all the Cummins' power and tow just about whatever you want. Stock won't last very long if you boost the power much past 250 hp on a '95, especially if you tow some weight.

I built up my 95' 47rh at about 100,000 miles . That was about 70,000 miles ago. Has been 90% pulling 10-15k trailers since then. Works fine. I agree with the other guys. I am sure you will be happy with it. Looks like a nice rig you have there.

Thanks for the Information and will do

I am afraid to pull the car trailer with the 95 Motor Home. The trans works good but when going In overdrive Its a little slow but I think that normal. I sent ATS a email about buying a transmission or rebuilding mine. I am IN Pa. and could drive out there or have them air fright one to me. Anyway thank you. The overdrive Is what I worry about after the trans locks up everything Is fine.

They have shops all over the country affiliated with them. Some of the best names in the Diesel business do ATS rebuilds. TST Products in Columbus, Ind. , and Blumenthals Heavy Duty in OK, to name just two. I'm sure they have someone good near you.

Nice Rig. I don't think i've ever seen a dodge motorhome the same size as yours.

Member JetPilot rebuilds transmissions for DTT and if i'm not mistaken he's located in PA.

You don't really want to pay air freight... ... I done that and regret every minute of it. For the price of freight i could have bought a rasp for dads truck. O well live and learn. Although the ATS trans has been trouble free, i just don't feel i got the best bang for my buck, when i added up freight both ways, trans, VB, TC, Commander. Wich is the reason i suggested JetPilot for your rebuilding along with one of the best names in Diesel Transmissions.

Hey, I built a DTT transmission for one of those a few months back. Nice RV. Made a huge difference in the drivability of it. Let's just say, the owner was more than pleased with the new setup. And even saw a measurable mileage increase, like 1. 5 MPG.

Paying Air Freight is not the best way to go unless you do have someone like Kenneth's friend who can give you a heavy discount. Even with a discount you would have to pay freight both ways in order to return your trans as a core. However, you don't need to do that because ATS I'm pretty sure has somebody fairly near you who will build a performance trans out of your core. When I got my Stage IV in 2002, I wanted my own trans rebuilt--I just felt better about it.

Did you see the Earthroamer truck on the ATS site? It looks about the size of yours. He has written several articles about his ATS experience for the TDR magazine. It is really a bullet-proof trans. I can't say enough about it. I'd do it again in a heartbeat! It is the best thing I ever did to my truck. You will be amazed at the difference. When that baby locks up you are transmitting 100% of the Cummins power to the ground! 100%!! I also got better gas mileage after mine went it. And shifting locked is a great way to go, but only the ATS is engineered to shift locked--don't try it with a stock trans.
