Upper end of breather tube loose ?

Having installed an extension tube on the lower end of the breather tube to direct the fumes aft, I was surprised after a 70 mile pull with the trailer to have the strong smell return. Checking, it seems that the upper end of the breather tube seems pretty loose at the back end of the valve cover where it 'disappears'... . You can't see or reach in far enough to see whether it is loose, tight, fallen off, or ???..... Is this normal, and if not, can I just take off the light cover that includes the oil cap (looks like 4 bolts) and re-attach it or tighten the connection ?. . Obviously I want to avoid visiting my local ***ler if I can. TIA. . Gerry

No problem at all removing that black cover with the 4 bolts. Once you do it will be very obvious if something is wrong with the breather... you'll be staring right at it. Go for it!

Thanks Ryan. . Sounds like a project to do in the next couple of hours. I suspected it was simple, but wasn't sure. .



It came off quite easily and revealed that nothing was loose, so I guess I will just extend the vent tube a bit further... ... . Gerry

I think the best fix for the odor is to put your vent back stock and do the Dan Rounsevell fix. That way all engine compartment fumes including any possible exhaust leaks won't get inside plus when setting in traffic your engine fan won't be drawing in the fellas pipe in front of you.
