Is there any information on a uprate for the 245 hp engine? Will the tst work on it? A salesman at BD said he would not reccomend there chip on the HO.

Try the PowerEdge or VA if you are looking at boxes and or injectors. I have a PowerEdge on my HO Cummins with no problems and it sure does wake up that sleeping giant under the hood of my truck #ad

Where do I find the PowerEdge?

Here is the website : Edge Products

It can be bought from a couple different places, like HVAC, Ted Jannetty, and I believe DIS has them now or you can get them directly from Edge Products.

Check my thread on ETH+42 hp; that is what the Bosch RV injectors added. Call TST at 812-342-6741 or email them from their website at www.tstproducts.com
I'm sure their PowerMax1,2,3 will work fine; the recently marketed Edge is "very" similar to the TST PowerMax2.

Joseph,

What did the Bosch injectors do for your fuel mileage?

Thanks,
Danny

The ETH wasn't mine. Too many valves for me #ad
Others have reported about 1. 5 mpg more with them. On my perfectly valved 97, big injectors help around 0. 5-1 mpg unless my foot gets too heavy.

Where does your EGT run under full power and a load? Does the edge change boost levels??

You'll have to get the numbers from Doug, I have a "hotter" version of the Edge then he does so of course I run hotter.

But yes it will increase boost to about 32 to 33 psi.

How does it do that with a wastgated turbo housing? I thought that the gate was indipendintly operated from manifold pressure

To do that you simple take out the fitting going to the wastegate (thats on the turbo itself) and then replace it with a elbow provided by the people at Edge.

It takes like two minutes to do it. It allows you to delay the opening of the wategate and giving you more boost. I have seen it done on an 01 ETH truck w/"standard" PowerEdge installed. When Doug reads this I am sure he will chime in here.

The PowerEdge has a "boost module" built in that will keep the computer from setting an overboost code.

On an 01 with an Auto its not as simple to modify the wastegate.

Some, if not most, report better mpg with the 275 Hp injectors. Can someone explain how (and why) this works this way? From an engineering perspective it seems that when you were just cruising empty, you're using nowhere near the power either the 245's or the 275's should give you. So, I was guessing, my first guess would be that the "original" injectors should be closer to their optimum performance point, while the 275's would be near the bottom end of their output range. Also, I would expect that Cummins wouldn't put "crappy" injectors in any of their engines, so I would have thought the machining tolerances on the 245's would be just as good as the 275's and would give a fully atomized spray, etc. Obviously, my "guesses" are not consistent with what people are experiencing, but, can anyone explain why??? My first choice would be for some Cummins engineer who is monitoring to come out of the closet, but since I obviously don't know either, how about some educated guesses?

I thought so. Then there is no boost control on the gate . This is the first computer controlled truck it was easier to shadetree the 7100 pump. I see there is a void sticker on the injection pump??

Well I don't know if there is a "Void" sticker on the fuel pump connector or not, I haven't looked at mine.

The VA plugs in using the factory connections, I have heard rumors that a "Void" sticker resides on that connector now.

All the other boxes attach a wire to the "injection pump wire". Hope that expalins it more, more questions just ask.

Well Robert sorry I have been working quite a bit and doing other things. Well as to your questions my EGT's ran up to 1250+ degrees pre-turbo in Level 3 with my foot almost to the floor, because when I hold it to the floor it reaches 1250 degrees fast hence I let off the go pedal and now I have added a 4" exhaust and now I can hold the go pedal to the floor in level 3 and it will not go over 1250 degrees althou I have to do my tow test next weekend and I will let you know. And as KatDiesel stated it does change boost and I get about 33 PSI max before 4" exhaust and now I get about 34-35 PSI max. And it allows higher boost because it keeps the wastegate from opening so soon and no my pump did not have a void sticker on it, but then again mine was built in Feb. and they probably changed since then.

HC,

I just got my latest issue of the TDR today and there is an excellent article in it by Joe Donnelly that explains how bigger injectors can increase fuel mileage.

In a nutshell, the engine runs more efficiently but with a little more "pollution". Check out the article (page 30).

1996 Dodge 2500 4X4 SC, SLT, Cummins 12V, 5-spd. , JRE 4" exhaust (my kitty ran off into the woods and the muffler fell off!), TST 280 HP/685 Ft-Lb Uprate Kit, AFC Spring Kit, Horton Fan Clutch, Jacobs/Ram Exhaust Brake, MagHytec Differential Cover, Prime-Loc, Rancho RS9000 Shocks, Combo Gauge, K&N Filter, Brite-Box, Geno's finger-touch oil pan drain plug, no turbo silencer ring, full-time fog lights.

Sounds like I should go on a hunt for 275 injectors first. I would have to bieleve the larger injector would change timing some?? And also take some load off the pump. I tow 100% of the tme with my truck so I dont want to make it too hot to pull in the mountans. Has anyone worked with water or alcohol injection? I have been injecting methinol in the turbo intake on my tractor puller for years and it is good for 50 to 75 hp on a 414 ci engine. This is dyno power not seat of the pants guesstimation. Dont know why it shouldnt work as good on the isb.
Bob

Robert, you can get new RV injectors from a number of places, such as Jannetty Racing (Ted's are matched for popoff pressure & flow), Diesel Dynamics, etc. For the best price, go to a Bosch distributor. This business, a Bosch distributor, has them for about $45 apiece:
