My Auto trans dosen't like to shift from 3rd to 4th with out letting up on the go pettled or to mash down and it will shift about 65. It wont shift any where inbetween or at least not with out a long hesitation.
I thought it was the TPS, I changed it out and adjusted. My readings are about . 89 (idle) to 3. 75 (F. T. ). My Manuel says its with in speck. Any other Ideas????

I tried to check the TV cable and it seems to be close to spec and the "manuel" says it only affects shifts from 1-3.

Any and all help would be appreciatted.

On a side note can any one tell me what size turbo housing I have so I know what to get for a bigger one (EGT is getting up there)

Thanks in advance

Mac, Seems like my manual says the tps voltage at idle should be 1-1. 2 volts and you may have to adjust the throttle linkage to get it as there may not be enough adjustment in the tps. Your full throttle voltage sounds right though. If you have the stock turbo it is a 12 ccm.

Mine did this at 75k on my 96. DC rebuilt transmission said it was an internal solenoid. While he was in there the mechanic replaced all the belts(?) sometimes it pays to go to dealer for all servie and OLF work. transmission still holding up.

RCMC:

I went through the same problem with my
96' at the first of the year. I had
previously put in a new TC and valve body
at about 98,000 miles. Then the 3rd to
4th "shift delay" started. I took my
truck back to "Scheid Diesel" and they
found that my seals and clutch packs
were pretty worn. So they went through
the ENTIRE transmission for me and the
problem is gone now. I'm not saying your
problem is exactly the same but our
"symptoms" sound similar.

Good luck!

Mac,

Have you checked the line pressure? It sounds to me like you have low pressure. This could be because of wear in clutch packs like John says.

Hello,

I am currently experiencing the same thing. The transmission won't shift from third to 4th without leting up on the fuel. Then its subborn still. However I Know what the problem is. Clutch drum seal, at least in my case. I am now trying to get it rebuilt under extended warrenty(what a joke). The trans tech at the local dealership says it it so commen should have been a recall.

What would I be looking at for a rebuild??

I checked the codes and I have a falt 24 which is low or high TPS so I will adjust it. What is the best way to clear codes??

Thanks again
Mac

Mac,

The biggest cost is for labor so if you can do the work yourself it's not too bad. I think a heavy duty kit from TST is about $350. You have to have the tools and know what your doing if you do that. The front clutch lip seal has been redesigned. My pressure was lower than I wanted even after a rebuild. I replaced the lip seal and that fixed that problem. It's kind of a PITA to get to and change. The best thing to do if you can, is to get a super transmission from Bill K. He is the guru on this stuff and his products are the best. Best service on the planet to go with the great product.

Well I adjusted it to about 1 and unhooked the batt. Checked the codes and 24 code went away.

Hopefully that will take care of it. If not I will have to save up for a new trans. I don't want to replace a part at a time just the hole kitten-kaboottil.

Thanks for all the help.

Mac
