Has anybody torn in to an engine in a roll over crash ? I have the chance to buy a 12valve that was runnning for unknown amount of time in a roll over accident. I imagine the mains and rods would suffer but mainly taking the fuel inj . system and swaping on a 93 engine in my chevy.

Thanks, Brian

roll over

I don't know if this will help but years ago I lost the oil plug in a 220 Mercedes Diesel and after hearing the klunk of the plug hitting the floorboards, Huh? whats that? the car went about 1/2 mile or more and started to slow down due to no oil and friction was taking over. I stopped

got another plug , filled it up with oil drove it another 70. 000 miles, sold

the car to neighbor who drove it to over 200,000 thousand.

I guess you look at the bearings and the crank when out and inspect for any wear. replace the bearings anyway. stormy

the biggest thing to be concerned about in a diesel in regards to a roll over is a run away condition. When a diesel rolls over it starts burning its oil and goes in a run away, even when you shut her off... technically your oil is now fuel. It runs itself to death revving uncontrollably.

I have seen a buddy of mine with a powerstroke roll his over and that is what happend. If i were you i would check the story behind it.

Rolled my old caprice over. Shut it off within a few seconds. Took hours for the tow so it was oil locked. Pulled the plugs blew the oil out and it was fine.

rolled

When I rolled mine, that God I didnt get knocked out, shut the engine down, real quick, getting me out was a chore for the guys, broke back, 7 ribs, collapsed lung, internal bleeding, was not a good day! Truck cab I cut off , cut bed off, doors cut them up also, so the body shop got two doors , truck bed, and a cab which they spliced onto mine, fixed the left and right fenders, and left and right side of hood they were not to bad, Thanks God the engine and trans were fine

I bought my truck from a shop that was fixing it but hadn't completed the job. It was drivable so I took it "as is". I don't know the history but it had been laid on its left side. I have often wondered how long the engine might have run while on its side. Maybe it didn't even stay on its side, I don't know. All I know is that it now has 402k miles so it couldn't have been hurt much if at all.

If I were you and it wasn't too hard I would pull a few bearing caps so you would know.

Well, depending on the angle of the truck and how much fuel is in the tank, it cant run too aweful long upside down without losing prime. I would bet the engine is in decent condition.

As long as the truck was not left running more then a few second's it should be fine I know we we re fired My old truck after rolling it I just made sure oil level was fine and everything was clear and it fired and ran fine . just check and double check yourself and things should be ok .
