My truck is dead! It looks like my 3 year old Fass DDRP fuel pump crapped out and you know the rest: took the injection pump with it. I have a fuel pressure gauge and the pump decided to fail in the middle of the Mojave Desert, while I was towing a 25 ft travel trailer. I am told by representatives from Fass dealers, the DDRP is a poor pump with a high failure rate. I was going to replace the old DDRP with a new one as a precaution to save the new rebuilt injection pump. However, now that I am being told by dealer reps this pump will fail within a very few years, I am reluctant to buy another Fass.

If you are running a DDRP pump only, not one of the other Fass models, please tell me how long you have been running that pump on your rig. I need to get my truck back on the road but I don't want to make an expensive pump selection error.

If you have had a DDRP failure, please tell me how long it ran before it failed.

Thank you, Steve

Unfortunately I have seen them with poor fuel pressure, right from the box. Sad too because it's a great idea to just replace the factory pump.

I've been running mine for ~45k, three years with no problems. However, I did have issues with the 20um screen on the inlet - a couple of times I had the screen in the banjo bolt crap up, and saw fuel pressure drops. I replaced the screen with an easily cleaned Oberg external filter. I called the factory, and they indicated they had quit supplying these as standard.

My sister had the Fass DDRP on her '02 and when the inline filter would start to plug it would lose fuel pressure. It was not constant on pressure either, seemed to jump around a lot. I just put the Raptor DRP on about 5,000 miles ago, and it has been great. It is adjustable so you can dial it in right where you like it. I pulled that Fass off so many times to change the springs in it that I timed myself putting it back on the truck and only took 4 mi 44 sec. I am sick of lift pumps. Hopefully this raptor lasts.

I've been running the Fass 95 (?) unit since 2005. No problems with mine other than the fuel pressure dropped to 14psi @ idle after 1 year but has remained constant. I'm due to replace the fuel lines from dry rot.

How sure are you that it took the VP with it? If all you got was a P0216 code, then get a transfer pump on there first, then see if the VP is indeed dead. I have done quite a few trucks that was throwing a constant P0216 that went away after transfer pump replacement. If you are going to be on the road, you may want to buy the VP and keep it in your truck as an emergency backup until you get home. You can always return it.

Same experience here. The FASS DDRP would not hold pressure, but the Raptor DR was great.
On the P0216, I always replace the lift pump first. Some times the VP is ok, And other times it is not. I also see the VP die usually within a year if it hasn't died already once the truck is driven with the lift pump gone. The problem is, most people don't know that the lift pump is gone, until the truck dies from a dead VP because they don't have any way to see the fuel pressure.
