Does anyone have any experience with this product. since i almost bought the $700 jake brake on e-bay, i figured i would research exhaust brakes a little more. if i am reading the web site correctly, you mount it downstreamin the exhauxt it uses an electric solenoid to activate the butterfly. I like this a lot beteer than mounting a compressor. what i don't like about it is mounting it under the vehicle and the micro switch under the accelerator.

I had one in my '91, installed about 1998, still works. Occasionly it would stick engaged, so would have to push in clutch to disengage. I wouldn't think it would mix too well with salt on the roads. It was very easy to install.

The good thing is that it mounts inline. The bad thing is that it mounts inline.

It doesn't bolt up to the turbo, hence the turbo 'freedom'. But that means that it mounts down in the muck, grime and spray on the road instead of being protected up high and behind the turbo. So it is more prone to problems one or two winters down the road after being marinated in salt and spray.

I had one on my old Ford psd and it worked well though it would get covered with mud so there were times I would have liked it to work and it didn't. I now have a Pakbrake and except for occasional electrical problems (sticking relay), it has been working great.

Well what I am trying to do is piece a simple system togther, I want an exh-brake that turns on when I flip switch, and off when I flip it back... No throttle swich, no control box, no fancy stuff

Why you ask? Simplicity and cost mostly...

Any ideas? -- I know I can get the US gear brake only (no electronics, but with the solenoid that hangs on the side of it) for around $500 - Then I have to figure out how to actuate it (3 wires, one ground, 2 power - one of the power is only to open, the other to hold it)

Can you smell what the GUN is cooking?

the us gear web site has the install instructions. i bet there is a way to by pass all the electronics as it is simple actuator with a solenoid that mounts either under the dash or in the hood.

i don't know what you're cooking but it smells good
