Why can't I get a turkey club sandwich?

This is one story of many that people normally don't hear, and one that everyone does.

This is just one most don't hear:

A young Marine and his cover man cautiously enter a room just recently filled with insurgents armed with Ak-47's and RPG's. There are three dead, another wailing in pain. The insurgent can be heard saying, "Mister, mister! Diktoor, diktoor(doctor)!" He is badly wounded, lying in a pool of his own blood. The Marine and his cover man slowly walk toward the injured man, scanning to make sure no enemies come from behind. In a split second, the pressure in the room greatly exceeds that of the outside, and the concussion seems to be felt before the blast is heard. Marines outside rush to the room, and look in horror as the dust gradually settles. The result is a room filled with the barely recognizable remains of the deceased, caused by an insurgent setting off several pounds of explosives. The Marines' remains are gathered by teary eyed comrades, brothers in arms, and shipped home in a box. The families can only mourn over a casket and a picture of their loved one, a life cut short by someone who hid behind a white flag. But no one hears these stories, except those who have lived to carry remains of a friend, and the families who loved the dead. No one hears this, so no one cares.

This is the story everyone hears:

A young Marine and his fire team cautiously enter a room just recently filled with insurgents armed with AK-47's and RPG's. There are three dead, another wailing in pain. The insugent can be heard saying, "Mister, mister! Diktoor, diktoor(doctor)!" He is badly wounded. Suddenly, he pulls from under his bloody clothes a grenade, without the pin. The explosion rocks the room, killing one Marine, wounding the others. The young Marine catches shrapnel in the face.

The next day, same Marine, same type of situation, a different story. The young Marine and his cover man enter a room with two wounded insurgents. One lies on the floor in puddle of blood, another against the wall. A reporter and his camera survey the wreckage inside, and in the background can be heard the voice of a Marine, "He's moving, he's moving!" The pop of a rifle is heard, and the insurgent against the wall is now dead.

Minutes, hours later, the scene is aired on national television, and the Marine is being held for commiting a war crime. Unlawful killing.

And now, another Marine has the possibility of being burned at the stake for protecting the life of his brethren. His family now wrings their hands in grief, tears streaming down their face. Brother, should I have been in your boots, I too would have done the same.

For those of you who don't know, we Marines, Band of Brothers, Jarheads, Leathernecks, etc. , do not fight because we think it is right, or think it is wrong. We are here for the man to our left, and the man to our right. We choose to give our lives so that the man or woman next to us can go home and see their husbands, wives, children, friends and families.

For those of you who sit on your couches in front of your television, and choose to condemn this man's actions, I have but one thing to say to you. Get out of you recliner, lace up your boots, pick up a rifle, leave your family behind and join me. See what I've seen, walk where I have walked. To those of you who support us, my sincerest gratitude. You keep us alive.

I am a Marine currently doing his second tour in Iraq. These are my opinions and mine alone. They do not represent those of the Marine Corps or of the US military, or any other.

Sincerely,

LCPL Schmidt

The Arab press has been making this there number one news story ever since it happend. They decry the brutality of our troops. Oh- but its ok for them to execute and behead inocent non combatant civilians.

God Bless you!!!

I don't know you, but I would like you to know that our Church prays every meeting for you and your brethern. Thanks for your sacrifice, and may God protect you and bring you safely home. :)

I want to thank you for your unselfishness. You go risk your life day in day out to fight an enemy that doesn't play by any "rules. " When we play by their rules we are bullies. Please do what you have to do. There are those of us who understand what you have to do and why. Take care, get home safe. If I ever get the chance to meet you. I owe ya one!

Thank you and all your Military Brothers and Sisters.

Josh

The soldiers have our full support. Only the media is questionable.

Personally I'd like to hear about 100,000 more of these shootings everyday.

Then the job will be done sooner. The world will become more sane.

If I was in charge, The cities like Falugia would be level when we leave.

Thanks for your service!

I am a vet, Navy Corpsman. I never saw combat, but I cannot believe what is happening to this Marine. He had every right to shoot and kill that arab.

The Japanese, in WWII, would lay amongest the dead in the battlefield. They would shoot our soldiers in the back when they came through after the fighting ended. The VC used the same tactics.

Pull these traitrous reporters out of the field and shove em' back to Kuwait. I cannot believe that tape made it to the public! And that reporter should count his lucky stars that one of those Marines did not waste him for that tape. That tape should have been veted through command and destroyed. If I was an embedded reporter, I would watch my back. I am surprised that more reporters have not turned up at room temperature. I have no love for the media, they are a detrement to our troops in the field, and should be removed. They are not our friends, they are our countries enemy within.

Aren't there sedition laws still on the books?

LCPL Scmidt,

If you are currently over in Iraq, send us your address. I would like to send a care package. You might not be in need of anything, but maybe someone in your outfit is. You know, stuff like toiletries, snacks, batteries, sunscreen, bug spray, you know. Maybe just a card of thanks to the guy that never gets mail.

Give me a detailed list (post the list for all to see) and an address, PM it to me or post it, whatever you are comfortable with. Maybe a few other TDR members would like to contribute. Its easy sitting here, but I remember my stint in the military, it can get quite lonely.

Let us know how I, or WE, can help!

Mike

ive read some of these posts and i think i need to clarify something--i am not LCPL Scmidt. My name is SSG Chris Childs. I recieved this letter from my OIC and decided to post it in defense of the Marine who is receiving all this flack for doing his job.

For those who want to contact our troops and send them things (whether it be letters, cards, whatever)--please by all means. check at www.anysoldier.org.

God bless

He outta be given a medal for one positively confirmed insurgent kill. There is no way he can be prosecuted based on the evidence. The insurgent had been instructed to kill all Americans at all costs so he can meet Allah. We know this based on video instructions by insurgent leaders (or rather top scuz balls). We got to him first. It is unfortunate the Abrahms tanks didn't vaporize him in the moments prior when a barrage of fire had been sent in the building.

Is the Pentagon sending the message that were supposed to assume insurgents are actually innocent people until the courts prove otherwise? This move to prosecute will put American Soldier's lives in jeapordy. No doubt.

AND... I can't wait until someone finally catches up with Osama Bin Ladin. Just before they shoot him... don't forget to call your lawyer to schedule your day in court. The killing of an unarmed Bin Ladin will be the next big media court case we can watch on TV everyday. Outta make the OJ Simpson case look like and episode of "The Peoples Court".

Guess the Pentagon will now have to go back in time and prosecute all cases of such "crimes" from all wars. Surely there are people with such eye witness accounts of this during WWII and Vietnam. Get in line lawyers. And all the video evidence of planes behind an enemy plane shooting him down when he obviously wasn't a threat at that exact moment in time?? All gathered up for the court cases.

Wake up Pentagon!

I think the media should be treated the same as the insurgents! They cause more trouble by their lies and misleading propaganda as to the treatment of the enemy, but think nothing of their treatment of our soldiers! The only thing they know is death. They are taught from a very young age to hate Americans. Look at some of the footage and see how young some of those kids are that are carrying weapons!

A great big THANK YOU to all those who put their lives on the line and those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom!

For all the crybabies, celebrites, treehugers, if I had it my way I would ship you over there to live with the ones you love so dearly!

On another note we ought to ship the gang bangers over there to fight as they seem to think they are such bad ****** and see how long they would last!

The only mistake that young Marine made was not shooting the ******* reporter before he shot the scumbag mutant!!

There are things that happen in war that are NONE of anyones buisness... it's WAR for crying out loud. In this information rich society we think we have a right to know everything that happens everywhere. When it comes to the protection of our country and its heroic service members... we don't have to know everything that they go through. God knows it will be tough enough for them to live with as they come home.

It is our duty to support them and help them re-adjust when they do come home. If that means taking out some liberal reporters or flag burning anti war protesters... sign me up!!

What that Marine done is Justified, it comes under Rules of engagement as per subscribed in the British Army under like conditions, and as Allies in the same Field of Conflict probably concur. The Clown with the camera should have recieved the first Round. Why in Hell Americans even allow cameras and reporters in an area of Conflict I fail to understand. A Soldier is a Soldier is a Soldier, why in Hell don't the news people show films at DINERTIME TV, of the Steak now being consumed, of the Cow being Slaughted, Skinned, Drawn and Quartered to produce said Steak, plus Sheep, Goats, Chickens etc. including Sound---Vegies anyone? Extra Gravy? All Combat Troops in Iraq have a very Difficult Job and should be Highly Respected for it, if it was that good people would be Flooding the country to take part in it, I mean the Rifle part, for critics I suggest just get on with your Knitting and don't forget to feed the cat. Scrum Down.
