Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Use of fuel additive vs/ LP life

I'm curious. For those of us unfortunate enough to have had a LP failure, had you been using any kind of lubricity enhancing fuel additives regularly. What I'm getting at is, does use of a lubicity enhancing additive have any effect on the lifespan of our LPs?

Let me know what you've experienced. I've used stanadyne lubricity formula since 4k to now (18K) and have experienced no problems.

Well I wouldn't say mine failed but it became erratic.

90% of the time pressures were fine and 10% it would be low.



I decided to swap it out for the PE4200 setup before it really S**T the bed.

Would be nice to know milage and what type of addative is being used . I have 2001 w 60 k and use Howes.

I managed to get 75,000 out of mine before it started to go down hill fast. At 85,000 I still have the same one, but a pusher pump also. I run Howes fuel additive in the winter only.

I use Rotella DFA, have a regular cab truck so the distance the pump has to pull is closer to it's design parameters, I also never let the tank get below 1/2 full which is easier on the LP. Just trying to do everything I can to help it survive.

I have clocked over 91,000 since 3 July 2000 on my 2001. No problems so far and I used Power Service on a regular basis. I use the 32 oz bottle (yes all of it at once), at least once a month and when I go on a cross country trip to Utah or Idaho I use a bottle every tank during the trip. Every six months I treat the tank with 4 oz of Power Service Bio-Cide. I have never seen any water or dirt in the filter bowl when doing my fuel filter changes. So far so good. It might be excessive, but I'm comfortable with the reliability factor. When I had put in my 275 injectors, the factory ones looked brand new with no soot build up.

I have used some sort of fuel additive since day one in at least 90% of all tanks full of fuel. When I had the fuel pressure gauge installed at 45K miles, I discovered my original lift pump was dead. Not sure how long it had been DOA...



That was in April 2002. Since about July 2002, I have been using, in addition to traditional fuel additives, Costco soybean oil. I use 1 gallon of soy oil per 50 gallons of diesel. That's around 2% of biodiesel, which is supposed to dramatically increase lubricity, which is a good thing
