Use of o/d during towing.

When pulling moderate to heavy loads. Do you folks ever run your rigs out of tow mode? I know the manual says "if your transmission starts to shift frequently, put it in the tow/haul mode" I don't use O/D hardly at all. However, I have used it periodically and my truck seems to have no problem pulling . It has never shifted eratically when in o/d. I'm sure the transmission temp is seriously increasing when not in tow/haul mode. I usually pull 10-12k trailer weight.

When I pull those types of weights, I always run with O/D off. transmission temps shouldn't really be a problem. Your EGT's and Boost temps will be high.

Are you running gages to moniter your crucials? ie. EGT. , boost, etc.

I pull a 5th wheel about 14,000 lbs and almost never lock out the overdrive. Even with the 3. 54 ratio it pulls fine. I do have the RV injectors and the Edge Comp box and also have the ATS converter and valve body. This valve body is supposed to provide a bit better lublication to the OD section, from what I understand. As long as you use common sense, I don't see a problem using OD.

I can pull my 24' stock trailer down the highway at 65mph in O/D without much problem. Pulls about 10 lbs of boost. And doesn't lug down to much on hills.

Just got back from week trip from VA to GA (about 450) pulling my 10,000 lb Prowler..... used O. D. everytime I got above 55 MPH... . and yes it did lower the trans temp considerably!! With the EZ installed pre-turbo was about 600 and post-turbo was about 500 on flats--small hills would send temp up to 800/700... . transmission read about 150--160 whole trip..... I was running between 65-70 on I-95 (usually stayed about 5 below limit)... ... ... ... ... ... . R, J. B.
