HCannon, yep, that's the stuff, as I figured it would work but it just turned it into no power steering. Once I took it back out and refilled with std. power steering fluid things were o. k. again. Weird but I'm glad it works for you as I think it's a great lube after seeing the pan drop debris (lack of) on the trans service.

I know I work at a John Deere dealer as a mechanic, and you wouldnt believe the number of clutches that are on some of these tractors, with a powershift transmission on an 8000 series you can have 8 or 10 separate clutchpacks when you start counting the pto and mfwd. They are the same design as in an automatic, I have been into both of themI would see absolutly no problem with running Hygard in automatics, the only problem i could see is in severe cold climates that it might not flow enough till it gets warmed up, but they also have a low-viscosity hygard that is designed for lawnmower hydrostats and can be used in tractor transmissions below a certain temperature also.

This had never occured to me before. I have a 95 jeep that the trans is loose on. I'm going to give this a try. Maybe the thicker oil will stiffen it up. If not, oh well, the transmission needs rebuilt anyways.

I'm the new guy on the block, I'm contimplating a transmission rebuild this coming year, I'm interested enough to give the John Deere Hy Gard a try before the rebuild happens. I will seek as much info as I can and watch the posts. Larry.

New guy again, after reviewing the write-ups and the MSDS sheets on what I could find of the products listed in the previous posts, I think I would rather go with the Amsoil's products. Larry.

On the strength of what JoeG had to say about this I went with JD HiGard about 50K miles ago. The shifts are consistently good. The coldest weather I have had is around 15F. Shifts were fine still. Sometimes with the Tran fluid I would occasionally wonder, "did that shift go right" Decided to change the HyGard fluid at about 20K miles since most was towing a travel trailer. The pan was clean, the fluid was clear and I realized there was little point in changing but I did just to further clear out any old transmission fluid from the original swap. I do not know what happens at higher milage with the seals but so far no leaks.

I really like the HyGard so far.

I flushed my transmission and TC about two weeks ago and replaced the stock ATF with Hygard. There was approx 1100 miles on the newly rebuilt transmission when the switch was done. I've only driven about 300 miles since then. We've had several days with 15* lows in the last couple weeks and I haven't noticed the transmission shifting any different than it had before starting to use Hygard. I'm planning to do some towing in the next few months (10k lb 5th wheel), and that should provide some good info. I'll post any new information.

TSC the JCWhitney of tractor stuff? Why not just put what belongs in it, ATF Automatic Transmission Fluid. If you want to experiment with something crank up the boost at least it will be fun for a while. There is a bunch of different trans fluids out there and they are very manufacturer pacific. We work on all kinds of equipment and we are seeing more & more ATF used in hydraulic systems. ATF flows munch better in cold weather. And even the best hydraulic fluid will foam twice as quick as ATF. We just got done dealing with a pump that wouldn't stop cavitating & foaming up the oil with continuous use. The fix was doubled the reservoir size and switch to ATF. Not to mention the additives in the fluid for a pacific job. I do believe the older the trans the less of a issue it would be.
