the cap wrench. wouldn't budge it. so i went back to the tried and true strap wrench from above like on both of my 12v's. popped right off. actually easier than the 12v from above.

I take it this wasn't a Hardwick filter socket? I sure can't see how that's going to slip! I can't wait to use mine. . it's gotta be so much easier than the way I used to do it. If it's not a problem with the socket slipping, then did you try adding a breaker bar to your ratchet to get more leverage?

If it was mine and failed, I'll replace or refund.

I'm not a degreed engineer so I over engineer to compensate for not knowing the bare minimum :D

it didn't slip. jeepdude, how did you infer that it slipped? i just said it was a pain in the ass from below... i bought the wrench from genos. i guess it was not a hardwick wrench. mmier, i've probably changed more oil on my rigs in the last year than you will in the next 10. never had a problem with a plug till the brass one failed.....

hehe doh. . i don't know why i thought you said it slipped. so if it didn't slip, what was so hard about it? i just don't see how a strap wrench could be easier

What I find with mine is the socket drive head inserts too deeply and prevents the cap from seating all the way onto the filter.

I just push the cap onto the filter firmly, then insert the socket extension without letting it go to the detent.

I nearly twisted the factory oil filter before it broke loose, now they all come off just fine, as long as I dont put the socket all the way onto the extension.

Is that mine or another? Sorry, I can't remember all who bought a socket from me.

If you are refering to my socket, it's the first I've heard of this type of problem, but one which is very possible.

I'll double check that :D

No, it's not yours, I have a couple of generic ones, one plastic POS and one stamped tin one that every one else has that has the problem, but works well once I learned why it wouldn't engage tightly.

I'd be embarassed to have shiny tools like yours in my box :-laf

I can't understand why anyone would want to lay on there back with oil dripping on there face when from the top is so easy with a strap wrench. also, you don't need the new?filters-the old ones work fine.

Can you remove the filter from above with a strap wrench without removing the tube from the air filter to the turbo? I cannot see how you can get to it easily from above without removing something.

This is true, and everyone has their own procedure.

For me, it's easier to slide under the truck with a pan, a rachet and two sockets, remove the filter and drain plug while under there and wait for it to drain.

I can have that done probably before you get your intake tube off :D

I suppose if I could drain the oil from the top, it'd be worth it to do the filter from the top as well.

Just one mans opinion.
