Has anyone had luck running a certain variation of an H2E sledpulling? If so, maybe some serial numbers or possibly housing/wheel sizes? No custom stuff here just some backwoods engineering. Thanks in advance. -Tom
A modified H2E with the right cam and fuel will spool rather easy and it is sweet.
JR Adkins made one for our pulling truck and it is awesome!!!! Not sure how it spools with a stock cam but with ours it is awesome, it is also a stick truck if that helps
Ok no bull. I put a stock h2e on a 2002 so w/5 speed/ 3. 55 ratio customer pulled 45-50 hooks 2nd gear high range every time. charger lit on the road at 1700 rpm so hard you couldn't watch the boost gauge fly. spooled instantly at 3200rpm on the track always off the clutch in 15 ft of less. this truck had a stock cam, stock inner cooler. 58-68lbs boost depending on RPM on the track 45-50 on the road with good exhaust temps. THis truck was fourth in the ISFPA points in 2004.
It would lug right down below 2000 rpm at the end and burn the tires off most of the time.
H2e chargers are very tough very durable and cheap to rebuild 350 will put a new cartridge in one and you can update to hx50 wheels for the same price. Use a 17cm housing and either redrill the bolt holes or make an adapter plate.
DO NOT let someone talk you in to high prices these things can be had for 5-800 dollars and they will live forever. no they are not the best or the most efficient but they work really good for what they cost. . you can spool one on the road with a set of 275rvs and an edge ez but they will take the beating of a hot rod vp,7-14 injectors 3 stacked boxes and many other power adding tricks you don't need nitrous at all for any reason.
We ran a 2e on an our auto truck and it worked well. Took a bit to get it lit but none the less it lit with the auto. Hes is correct awsome charger for the money. The boost was about 65 lbs pulling.
Well absolutely no offense intended but I never said bullet proof. ANy turbo can fail no two will ever take the same amount of abuse. But I hope I speak for everyone when I say If you are going to destroy one it is better for it to be a cheap one. I always felt bad in 04 when we had the bolt on turbo rules in indiana. Some people were busting 1600-2600 chargers every run and the old H2 just kept plugging along. we put a set of bearings and shaft in after it got over sped but that is just a service policy.
one reason turbos tend not to last on trucks is people sometimes forget that they need to check bearings every so often. If it gets loose you can rebuild before damage for a lot less money than if it gets really loose and breaks the shaft.
Then there is the chance failure from overboost or extended high egt
