Using sway bars to control excess sway with truck campers on

Do some of our trucks have them? Mine doesn't, and it seems logical that installing one would be a smart thing to do to help eliminate the excessive sway many of us feel when our truck campers are loaded. Are there sway bar kits out there for our trucks? Any one use one? Thanks for any help

IMHO, sway bars are a must. I ordered my truck with the camper option which included the sway bar and extra overload springs but i'm sure they're available eslewhere. Try

they sell hellwig bars which are thicker than stock DC bars (i've been looking to upgrade mine) Also, Rancho 9000 shocks made a significant differance over the stock pieces of junk DC installed.

A rear swaybar on a 4x4 can be a mixed blessing off road when you need all the traction you can get. I use air bags and Bilstein shocks to help control sway with the cabover off road. I did try to fit a Helwig rear swaybar once, but the mounting holes were so far off I took it back for a refund. I don't think Helwig has checked the mounting on a late model 4x4 Ram. I've seen posts from folks with pre 2000 model year Ram's reported no problems with the fit of the Helwig rear bar. Having the Rancho adjustables in the rear can be a great help also, I had them on my last truck/cabover and they work great imo.

IPD also makes good sway bars. .combined with Bilstein shocks they work great... Dont have them on my truck yet but had them on a class A motorhome and they made a lot of difference. They do make them for Dodge trucks also.

Yes, i have both front and rear sway bars. The front one is one very big bar, at least 25% bigger than the rear. I assumed all our trucks had one

Put an add in the classifieds that you want a sway bar. Some members have removed theirs.

It is sad that you have to order a camper towing package to get sway bars on a truck that is supposed to be H. D. I brought my truck camper home on a three hour trip and I knew something was wrong. My last two Fords handled a truck camper better than my Dodge. Sway bars front and rear and better shocks should be just the ticket. I'll place an add in the classified section for bars, that was a great idea. Thanks

I think they are an Oregon company that makes larger torsion bars etc for just about anything. . Not sure about the front ones but I know they make the larger bars for the rear of Dodge trucks.
