oh I got the door rot issue

Rattlin_Ram,

Sorry to hear about your bad Dodge experience. :(

I think Tod is right, the other makers have their own rust & paint issues. Look around you at any brand older trucks.

it may be time to bring back that zeibart undercoating .

Or take the issue into our own hands to undercoat the doors ourselves!! :)

ToolManTimTaylor,

Great sign !!!! Oo.

Now he needs to park it in front of a Dodge dealer to really show his feelings.

EBottema,

Keep us informed on the outcome of your small claims verdict. All car company's brush off claims thinking we, the consumer will just go away.

Good Luck,

WAYNES WORLD

Well afetr a sickening set of lies told to me I NOW have to do what many DC owners have done before. Yep get corporate involved. Who , what , how do I contact the powers that be.

Wow... the doors on my 79 RamCharger are rusted out at the bottom, one so bad I have L brackets keeping it together. but it IS 26 yrs old. Product of lots of mud & water, and bad seals.

From the sounds of this, some of you have problems almost as bad. My 97 i just got has some rust, but Iam gonna stop that here real soon with something. maybe the rustcheck, or POR-15.

I too have the Door Blues!!!!!

My 01 has 120K on her, will go to a body shop and hopefully get everything fixed. Driver door might be saved, pass, need new skin!

This SUCKS! :{

You know the run around.

"3/20/05 O. K where is the truck? Oh outside allright lets go look. Yep passenger door is rotted thru and the drivers side is not through yet but needs replacement. The truck is still under warrantee and qualifies for the door replacement program. lets see here to do it now would be tough come back in a month. With this latest snow you can see all the cars in there. "

"come back in a month"

"I'm On Vacation"

"Waiting for area rep to call"

I show up one day out of the blue

Mr. K______ I have called you mumerous times and left my number on each message twice. Haven't herd from you so what's going on? I gotta say I am just a little bit ****** off and was hoping to be driving this summer with a non rusted out truck.

"Oh man yes I forgot please forgive me ... oh look her is the paperwork I was going to call you at the number. 203 762 ____. "

Hold it that's my old work number from when I bought the truck. Here is my cell Call me within 2 weeks so I can make my plans to go on vacation.

"Ok Ok Ok"

3 weeks later here I am just disgusted without a phone call.

At least they have agreed to fix them. I got the "They have to be rusted all the way through" speech. :-{} If I get a little time I may just wash and wax her up and park across the street from the local Dodge dealer with a big ole' rusty sign in the back. It is really a shame that DC sold $30,000 trucks that rust in 3 years. Disgraceful. :(

It is sad that d/c has these problems. Well then again, DC sucks IMO.

I am in california and rust does happen but not as often as where you guys are. I pulled my panels and check and my doors were clean. My truck originally came from Oregon. I have a 94 Ram 2500 v8 i got for 500 bucks and pass door has a good amount of rust, driver side is rust free. Once the rust starts, you can do nothing but fix it or wait for rot...

For you guys under warranty, go down and purchase some stuff they use on the roads. The chemical version of salt. Cannot remember the name of hand. Put a good amount in the bottom of the door and i guarantee you will have rot real soon.

For you guys that get your doors replaced and who don't have rust yet, it will happen sooner or later. Go down and purchase some 3m rustfighter 2. Watery stuff, dries like beeswax, fills in the bottom of the door (where the rust start) and i bet you will never have the problem again.

My 99

Well I have the dreaded 99 and it isn'r rusting there. I had Ziebart put on new. Have 24"X32" on the frunt and them ahead of the rear wheel and 24"x 36 on the rear, 14" running boards in the middle. The great white north and it's roads have been minimized for that rust reason.

Tim do you by chance park your truck in a garage or heated garage??? This is the best way for it to start rust. Had more rust on this in one year then on my 93 when I sold it.

Sorry didn't have time to read all.

I have a 2001 quad cab 4wd and both doors are rusting driver side worse than the passanger. And I put rust guard in the doors about 2 years ago and rock guard paint on the outside. Jay

I normally use whatever is in my oil can, and that is usually 30 wt of some cheap brand or another (*THIS* project doesn't require expensive synthetics!) :D ... Never noticed any odor problems - it actually doesn't require drowning the seams in oil, just a thin stream, and even voids (missed areas) will "wick" the oil into the seams in a short time.

I'd do most anything to avoid removing door panels...

You sure? I bet Amsoil would stop the rust at least TWICE AS GOOD as that cheapo stuff.

I bet you could actually use Amsoil on this project and never have to change your de-rusting oil! Of course, this will require the use of a bypass de-rusting oil filter, and regular makeup oil added-- but it should save you a lot of money in the long run ;)

Oh-- and if you want to prevent rust, the best product I have ever found for that (better than por 15 and Eastwood Rust Encapsulator) is something called Rust Bullet.

Slightly off topic, but I'm planning on using the rust bullet on my new bumpers. I'll also be coating the headache rack & rails with it. The powder coating lasted less than a year on the rack...

Ok, back on track here!

P. S> Tim, hope all goes well w/ DC

Don't forget about the regular samples and analysis of the de-rusting oil performed at the time you add the makeup! :D

Well, my 01 goes in this Monday to get both doors done and have the bottom part painted. Will be there for 3 to 4 days. . $1,500. 00.

So to fix what Dodge made wrong is another $1,500. 00 out of my pocket

Check your doors every week.

I went through this a couple of years ago with my '99. The dealer told me it is covered under "perforation" (sp?). This warranty is good for 7yr/70,000 miles. And it is transferable because I was the second owner of the truck. I was also told whether or not they replace or repair the door it will still be covered down the line... . They have to back up their own body work.

The catch the Autobody guy told me about though was that they do not get paid to "color match", they will paint it to whatever color code it is but not account for the fade. In my case it was fine because my truck was black but red would be a whole 'nother story.

Well I hope this helps some of you... good luck

YAHOOOOOO! Hounding and whining and a case # later The truck is not only going in for both doors but all hinges are getting replaced on the 19th!! Aparently the Bodyshop guy is . . ahem no longer with the company ( Flippin' shocker that was  ) and the day I was called in (allmost 8 months later) there were three other trucks that were having the same issue I was with a certain guy who did not like to return phone calls , update files , and schedule work nor order parts

So after the confusion of which rotted Dodge guy the called in things went extra smooth. Man what a relief.

The good and even better that can come out of this would be that I can now try some new sound dead material VS the Dynamat that was there.

Tim-

you better spray some 3m rustfigther in the bottom of those doors or you wasted your time and in 5 more years you will have rusty doors.

Good News Tim! As for my doors, I spent the better part of Sunday grinding, Navel Jelly-ing, Bondo-ing, sanding and Priming my doors, 147,K You know :( Paint soon. Moose00
