Utah emissions laws?

Is it law that you have to have the cat converter on an '06? Cummins mechanic friend of mine says it is legal to run without it. Any one know for sure? Thanks.

Your not dealing with state emission laws here... . these are federal standards that the vehicle has to meet except for those vehicles sold to CA residents... .

It definately requires the CAT in ANY STATE.

I think we're going to see a nationwide crackdown on emission related parts. The feds will get wise to gutted cats too. I think more and more states are going to implement smog tests for diesels too. If your vehicle came from the factory with a cat and it's not on there now, the fine is BIG! I've heard $10,000. Don't know if that's for real, but even if it's $1000, I don't think it's worth it. I can tell you some of the SLC cops are really picky about emmisions. I am from Idaho and got a $400 ticket for blowing smoke.
