I was just wondering with all the poeple on this thread, somebody should have gone to UTI and or Wyotech, "Diesel tech programs"... I'm getting out of the Navy after 8 years as a Machinist Mate "SNIPE" in about 8 months and am going to go to one of the two schools to get certified in Diesel. What do you all think of the schools? Are there as many jobs out there as they say there are? Thanks... .

cholman i am in fact responding to you from the trc room at wyotech in laramie im taking automotive chassis and high performance engines and if i have enough money will then be taking diesel. imo the school is worth the money they take care of you the classes are fast paced and top notch and employers come every quarter to high graduating students. if you want pm me and ill send you more info later right now i need to get back to class.

i went to UTI. it was back in 1994 though. things are probably alot different now. i didnt complete the program. because i figured out that even after all that schooling you take, you only get a diploma. no degree. i thought the price was kind of steep for not getting a degree. even with the $5,000 scholarship i had. just my . 02.

UTI graduated in 99.



I thought the program was Very good. I'd highly recommend it. Although... . if you have a good basic knowlege, you may be bored. They cover EVERYTHING and make no assumptions that you just know.

Received two Associate Degrees upon graduation.



There's an Outstanding Student Award plaque hanging around there someplace with my name on it. (toot toot... )



I like their diesel program---I went when it was in the old building--the new diesel, etc building out west of town is amazing.



You get out of it what you put into it---if you plan on partying and horsing around, expect a lower grade and less post-grad opportunities. If you take advantage of the fact that there is hardly anything to do in Laramie and keep your nose in the books, you'll be better off.



Don't be afraid to ask questions, get involved, and show initiative. It's expensive to go there--get your money's worth.

I have a wife and two kids, so I don't have time to mess around a party and the way I am with my professional life, I'll have no problem. I love working on every diesel I can get my hands on and am a perfectionist. It may take me a little longer, but unless I'm 110% sure on something I'll stop and get help or find what I need out... Now I'm really confused. I always thought the Navy had POs and CPOs, not NCOs, and NATTC was in Memphis.

Yeah, Im out June 18th of this year Holman, BTW hows your new windmill on that land barge of yours? IMO Wyotech, two buddys of mine left UTI in Houston due to the fact that they already knew most of the stuff they were teaching so why pay the $$$$$ ya know!!!! take care partner... ... Jeremy

I am also a wyotech graduate of 93 already had an associates degree before attending there so it applies to the diesel degree also. We went to fort collins co. or cheyene wyo for fun on weekends a lot.



If interested there are a lot of diesel tech jobs in the coal mining industry in Wyoming,Montana, and North Dakota. $25-$35 per hour on average.



I believe the mining industry in general has the highest paying jobs in diesel field.

Let's say ALL I wanted to learn was the B-series 5. 9 Cummins. Any of these schools worth the price of admission for just this? I too have heard if you have a basic knowledge, UTI is a waste.
